Was having a conversation today about what exactly would happen if a Catalina landed on the water with its gear down. We know most amphibs wohld simply turn turtle but what about floating hulls?

Water coming through the nose-wheel well breaches the bulkhead and water pours up over the pilot's seats into the hull, sinking it.
Read the accident report into the Southampton crash.
G'day ;)

Back in the 70s, I saw a Canso water bomber in a hangar at Red Deer, Alberta. It had landed gear down in a lake. The hull was broken in two, at the gear attach points.
