Tax- Claiming for overseas training?

A question for those in the know I am fully awear about the rules for claiming education expences for flight training. I am about to do an extra rating and have been looking at heading over to the USA to do them due to being half the cost of doing them here even with travel and living expences added in.

Am I able to claim for training conducted over seas or am I limited to being only able to claim for training conducted in Aus?

claimed mine no problem, including travel, accom and meals.

It looks like I tick all the boxes. The Rating is applicable to my employers business and my current job. My employer already operates these machines, and I have been offered a seat on these machines as well as maintaining my current seat. So am not seeking or creating a new job but expanding my earning potential and usefullness in my current position. I will be maintaining my employment while training although will need to take unpaid leave for a few months to do it then returning to it to play with my new toys.

Now that I know I probably can claim for os training looks like this is the road to head down. I'm guessing if I plan to head over befor the end of financial year I can probably get a big chunk of my expences back fairly quickly from point of having to pay for it.

Wonder if I could stretch it to include taking the cook over to as she is a dependant?

Obviously will check it out with an accountant but think it has some feasability.

You've been offered a seat on these machines with your current employer.

However, you have to take unpaid leave, go overseas and pay for your own endorsement....to get that seat?

Well will be for a few months so yes.
