If an airline with ETOPS certification and using the relevant aircraft on a non ETOPS sector has an engine failure, does that construe a 'strike' on the certification or only if occurring on an ETOPS sector?. Also would a both engine 'problem' on the aircraft attrbutable to the same cause constitute two 'strikes' or just one? Would a double 'problem' of separate causes constitute two 'strikes' ?

Thanks

A failure of an engine of a similar type with any airline anywhere in the World would count as a "strike" as you put it - unless it can be shown that the failure was caused by something specific to the other airline, such as poor maintenance.

ETOPS reliability statistics are based on worldwide statistics.

Thanks for your reply.

I was under the impression that each airline had to be certified not just the aircraft type i.e. the airline would be certified for ETOPS unless it had a given number of failures which could be attributed to poor maintenance and then ETOPS operations would be disallowed.
