First of all I know this is the "Professional Pilots" rumour network, but please don't shoot me down (no pun intended!!).

I have been working in the Aviation industry for 20 years, 12 in the R.A.F and 10 or so at civilian airports as a fire officer. I also have experience in airside operations and apron safety.

I would like to change my career, as I am not getting any younger, I have trawled the "WWW" looking for airside operations jobs with not much success, and was just wondering if any of you guys could offer any further advice or information please?

Thank you for taking your time to read my post.

Changing career or direction within any industry is tough. Companies these days don't seem to be interested in experience. All they seem to want is to save money and have this strange viewpoint that a younger person will be better value for money.

They seem to forget that if you put yourself out as being self employed then the rates of pay could be in line with what their budget is.

That said, Airside Ops jobs are tough to obtain at the best of times no matter your age. You're often filling dead mans shoes as it's rare that someone leaves such a cushty job. Best advice is to stay where you are and write to all of the Airport Authorities and basically bugging the hell out of them.

Chuck enough S%%T at the wall and something is bound to stick.

Good Luck!!!!
