Hi

I know there is an aircraft "graveyard" in the desert near LA but can someone give me a precise location, how long to get there etc. Any other tips appreciated.

regards

BBK

Ps actually I don't near that it is near LA hence me asking!

You might be referring to the old George AFB (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=34.594922,-117.358875&spn=0.069665,0.159645&t=h&z=13) at Victorville.

Mojave (near Edwards AFB) is the biggest/oldest in CA, but there are now many old airplanes at Victorville as well.

Many thanks for the info guys.

I think it was Mojave that colleagues had visited before. I'm aware of Victorville but didn't know there was a graveyard there too.

Does either allow visits or are they off limits?

Thanks again!

Victorville is where there are still some Boeing 747-400 of British Airways if I am correct. I know some did return to service but not sure all have.

How close do you need?
Marana and Tucson in Arizona, if you're desperate enough!

BBK, Mojave did, and possibly still do, provide tours subject to various conditions. Victorville most certainly don't. You can however see quite a lot from outside the fence line.

The AMARG tour is excellent, and only a short Southwest flight away. There's a good museum nearby as well.

I forgot about Mojave! Funny thing is, I went there about a dozen years ago, and yet have never been to Victorville. I remember the ex-TWA CV880s and the two C-133s at Mojave... are they all still there?

I have been to both Davis Monthan in Tucson and Mojave some years ago. It was the most amazing landscape I've ever experienced. Here's some of the work (http://richardbaker.photoshelter.com/search?I_DSC=aviation+graveyard&I_SDATE[MM]=&I_SDATE[DD]=DD&I_SDATE[YYYY]=YYYY&I_EDATE[MM]=&I_EDATE[DD]=DD&I_EDATE[YYYY]=YYYY&I_CITY=&I_STATE=&I_COUNTRY_ISO=&I_ORIENTATION=&I_IS_RELEASED=&I_IS_PRELEASED=&_CB_I_PR=t&_CB_I_PU=t&_CB_I_RF=t&_CB_I_RM=t&I_SORT=RANK&I_DSC_AND=t&V_ID=&G_ID=&C_ID=&_ACT=search) I did there.

There's also El Mirage (http://clui.org/ludb/site/aviation-parts-warehouse-inc-scrapyard). Occasionally used for film props etc.

It has some film editted in with a 'Top Gear' shoot (http://www.snotr.com/video/2864) at Inyokern Airport.

Mojave is a public airport so you can get reasonably close to the boneyard.

There are also a few curiosities on the eastern end of Camarillo (http://goo.gl/maps/ZtWTV), which is also worth a look for the CAF hangar.
