Not a great frequenter of this part of the forum, but I flew into LPL as a passenger yesterday. As I was walking to my car (approx 1700) 2 tornados flew into the circuit of rwy 27 at approx 500' (over the terminal) did a running break and landed at the airport. Very impressive, very loud and my 11 month old daughter absolutely loved it (her mum not so much)
Any idea what they were doing there late on a Saturday afternoon?

Just a guess, but the Southport Air Show is on this weekend. If it's the same two, then they did an excellent display at Duxford earlier in the day.

Yep, they were performing at Southport. I was fortunate enough to view them turning into LPL over New Brighton beach, completely unexpected and what a treat! They even managed to distract my lad from poking jellyfish with a stick!
Saw a few Spitfires about as well, probably BBMF.
By the way it was quite early on in the afternoon when I saw them, so perhaps at 1700 they were returning from the airshow to refuel or an overnight stop as Southport is on today as well.
