A shame that its manufacturing base will leave this machine a tool that the Arab Private Aviation world can't and won't accept.:(

It looks so groundbreakingly new. Like death warmed over.

I couldn`t agree more. It`s very puzzling why GS didn`t take the opportunity to part ways with IAI and make a clean sheet design. Looks like they`ve done most of the hard work otherwise.

I was once told by some guys that work for IAI during water ingestions trials with the what was then called G250 that the reason Gulfstream still have IAI in the design process is because of their wing design, it is very efficient and very clever

Except the wing on the G250/G280 is a scaled down copy of the G450 wing; designed in Savannah, Georgia.

Is it though??? If you look at a 450 wing, there are wing fences stuck on the lower side leading edge to stop spam wise flow I believe. The 250/280 doesn't need any of the augmentation devices

****Sorry that should be span wise flow****

It would be far more exciting to hear that the 650 was certified!

The G650 is not far from TC. The first pilot type rating class at FSI Savannah begins Monday September 10th.

All,

I cannot help but comment on the previous threads, since I had the pleasure and honor to be involved in the development testing of this aircraft.

Firstly, the G-280 is really a NEW aircraft, NOT an upgrade of the G-200.
She has a new wing, new engines, new avionics, new tail. Newer than that would be quite difficult....

Secondly, it truly was a JOINT effort Gulfstream/IAI. Gulfstream defined the broad lines of the aircraft, and of course kept a close eye over our shoulders during the design and flight testing, but IAI had a very important added value in many disciplines...

And finally, I believe that the fact that the G-280 was designed and manufactured in Israel will NOT be an hinderance for its marketing or operation within neighbouring "friendly" countries. Some G200 fly there, are based there, and whether the locals do not know or they are very good at looking the other way....

I know a pilot who first made his money selling Israeli products to Arab countries, rebranding them and turning them round to deliver from a third country. Neither he nor I believe Arabs are stupid, and didn't know what was happening. Surely most rich Arabs either don't care about Israel for real or don't hate them enough not to enjoy their products. It is the image that matters, and the image here is "Gulfstream" not IAI.
