Hi

I'd be grateful if someone could explain how serious a temporary overspeed on a fixed pitch prop equipped O235-L2A is?

Redline is 2800rpm and it briefly went up to 3000rpm for 1-2 secs during manoevring. I've grounded the aircraft and informed our maintenance organisation. They are getting back to me, but I wondered if anyone had any experience in either inspecting or repairing such an event.

As it was a momentary overspeed not exceeding 10% of max rpm, it's not a disaster.
Here's (http://www.lycoming.textron.com/support/publications/service-bulletins/pdfs/SB369K.pdf) a link to Lycoming SB369, which refers to overspeed limitations and inspections.
