Just read elsewhere that 3x inbound flights to Leeds last night between 22:00 & 22:30 (including a Jet2, B733 - Avion Express, A319 & Ryanair, B738) all reported been attacked by a green l@ser which was been shone into there cockpits whilst on short finals to runway 32.
I understand that the West Yorkshire Police Helicopter was dispatched and about an hour later the culprit was reportedly picked up and detained by local constabulary.

As this was happening in one of the most important parts of a flight and the potential impact of something going wrong would be unthinkable I was wondering what kind of sentence do these people get for this kind of stupidity??

Thankyou 10W & filthyrichandcatflap for your links. Its much appreciated. Lets just hope the said culprits get what they deserve.

PS. Just found out 2x more aircraft (Flybe E195 & Thomas Cook, A320) inbound to LBA last night were targeted by Green lasers whilst flying overhead Huddersfield area while the Police Helicopter it self was also targeted in Wakefield.

Lasers shone at aeroplanes flying over Wakefield to Leeds Bradford Airport - More Wakefield News - Wakefield Express (http://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news/local/more-wakefield-news/lasers-shone-at-aeroplanes-flying-over-wakefield-to-leeds-bradford-airport-1-4851279)

The culprits should be given some laser eye "treatment" themselves. That would cure them of their stupid and dangerous activities.

They really need to start making examples of these morons with VERY hefty sentences....seems to be happening with alarming regularity....they wont stop till they are frightened of getting caught.

One of our dog units got targetted by a knob with a laser pen last week. Said knob got arrested for having an offensive weapon, however I don't know the outcome. The force helicopter was also flying last week which led to another knob being caught in possession of a laser pen.

Why aren't laser pens simply banned from over the counter sale, or made illegal to be kept in private hands.

I have trouble understanding why any normal person might want one, other than perhaps to do business presentations, but even then these are normally done using the dreaded powerpoint method these days.

A man had also been arrested this week after he shone a laser at an aircraft in Cardiff. The previous week i heard that a Thomas Cook aircraft suffered a laser pen incident.

Simply idiots and all I can suggest is give a harder sentance as a deterrent including a large hefty fine.

Trouble is so many devices have a built in laser there days...I have 2 or 3 inc a spirit level and a infra red thermometer...I think the genie is out of the bottle,

Just needs very very harsh sentencing...but I dont think our leaders have the balls for such stuff.

Now I'm no way suggesting that I had anything to do with this but a friend of mine, a few years ago had a party in his garden in North London and had a 2w laser borrowed from a famous nightclub set up outside.

Bored a midnight, he apparently, (I was not there);) shone it at a few aircraft flying over.

Within the hour there was a police helicopter circling and the laser was on its way back from whence it came, sharpish.

Meant no harm and didn't realise that it was that bad, but it was a good strong laser. Apparently......:ooh:
