View Full Version : Darwin Candidate - Half-arsed attempt
david1300 15th Aug 2012, 23:33 Man shoots himself in buttocks at cinema
A 56-year-old man who shot himself in the buttocks when his gun fell from his pocket at a US cinema could be charged by police.
The man was at a cinema in Sparks, Nevada, to watch The Bourne Legacy yesterday when the gun discharged, the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://www.rgj.com/article/20120815/NEWS/308150107/Sparks-moviegoer-who-shot-self-buttocks-could-face-criminal-charge?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE&gcheck=1&nclick_check=1) reports.
About 30 people were in the cinema watching the movie when the man apologised and walked out with a wound to his buttocks, police said.
Police said the man, whose name has not been released, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon but would most likely be charged with illegally discharging it in a public place.
"It is illegal in Nevada, a misdemeanour, to either intentionally or negligently discharged or cause the discharge of a firearm in a theatre," Sparks City Attorney Chet Adams said.
About five people heard the gunshot but it didn't cause alarm.
Police found him at a Reno hospital getting treatment.

Pugilistic Animus 15th Aug 2012, 23:46 well now that sounds like a real pain in the ass...:}:ouch:
Pity he didn't shoot himself in the head,
the he could have been awarded a Darwin award.
.
heli-cal 16th Aug 2012, 00:34 Hopefully he'll be prosecuted and have his permit revoked.
And be sued by the cinema owner.

So, when I stormed up to the manager of a Texas cinema waving earplugs and complaining about the absurdly loud sound, it seems I wasn't too far off the mark.
I wanted my money back, and said very loudly, 'I fire my Glock with these in, but I can't stand the sound in there!'
Maybe it's the theater that should be sued, after all, the bloke only put a spare hole in his butt, the cinema was probably deafening people for life.
heli-cal 16th Aug 2012, 18:28 Ah', I thought that I was the only one that used ear plugs in cinema's.

Why....?
It was an accident, he apologized, he was legally allowed to carry the weapon, he was co-operative with the police......
Aside from maybe being a dumbass and not having his safety on, he has done nothing wrong.....
Re-entry 16th Aug 2012, 19:51 Maybe he thought he was aiming for his head.
"he has done nothing wrong....."
Unlawfully discharging a firearm in a public place ?
Gordy 16th Aug 2012, 20:01 Unlawfully discharging a firearm in a public place ?
You got me there..... however it may be mitigated as it was accidental.
I think they worded it better in the text at the top of the page.
"Police said the man, whose name has not been released, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon but would most likely be charged with illegally discharging it in a public place.
"It is illegal in Nevada, a misdemeanour, to either intentionally or negligently discharged or cause the discharge of a firearm in a theatre," Sparks City Attorney Chet Adams said."
Accidental doesn't get you off the charge which is why
I think they use "negligently discharged".
.
NutLoose 16th Aug 2012, 20:12 I bet that made him drop his popcorn..
Milo Minderbinder 16th Aug 2012, 20:24 I thought "negligent discharge" was something done in the back row as a teenager when watching those "Emmanuelle" films years ago

Don't you understand how litigation works in the US? It follows the money.
1) Other customers will sue the cinema owner for emotional trauma.
2) The gentleman in question will sue the cinema owner - probably for something like inappropriate seating for persons carrying a firearm - or maybe simply not having an on-screen warning "all mobile phones off and firearms on safety".
Tableview 17th Aug 2012, 16:03 Is this Britain's stupidest criminal? Teenage thief caught stealing pretend mobile phones from shop after ransacking flat police rigged with CCTV
Dim Bubba Ambala, from Birmingham was first caught raiding an apartment in his own block of flats which officers had set up with cameras in an elaborate sting operation. But just six months later he was caught shoplifting from a 3 mobile store when he made off with worthless display mobile phones which he thought were real. He was given a six-month prison sentence so he would be released in time to go back to college and continue his studies.
Never was a name more appropriate!

However, in recent days, I have encountered several others.
Bury St Edmunds to Sudbury on Sat. A road not really noted for overtaking opportunities. Enter, madam, in a Fiat thingy, happily ignoring the speed limits and smoking away. When to overtake me ?....on double white lines, leading to a blind curve and doing more than 30..just. She missed the oncoming BMW by a couple of ins.
Cambridge Services, Sun. Drive from car park to fuel pumps. Think of a roundabout here regarding the location of said pumps. Cross the ring road as it were, then apply brakes !...enter, from the rightat a rapid rate of knots, madam, cutting across the forecourt to the furthest pumps, stops..and duly lights a cigarette smoking away quite happily whilst the male version nips into the shop !.
Braintree...coming from Sudbury and heading towards Stansted. Arrive at the bit where it goes from single to dual c'way. Clearly marked at roundabout, signs say "Left lane Only, turn Left " Right Lane straight ahead, with big arrows. Enter, "Essex boy" clearly unable to read / write or drive, who gets in the left lane, then, starts the flashing lights, horn and gesticulations directed towards one who was in the right lane, as per the, er,signs..we missed.
Today, filling up a petrol station near Donnington (Shrops ) and a male person ( a nice term being a pragmatic G'dian reader) parked, facing the entrance ( this may give you a starter clue ) says can I help him. Then asks for directions to the, erm, M1. Seems he dropped a relative off at V.Fest at Weston Park ( another clue here ) and because the A41 is one way due to the event, couldn't get back to the M54 ( there are large signs to help ) and then, the good bit "me Tom Tom's broke".
One kindly offered directions in very simple terms, to the M54...thereafter, how he got to Yorkshire is anybody's guess.

An excited friend of a Kuwaiti bridegroom killed him during his wedding with a stray bullet as he charged his gun to fire into the air in celebration, a local daily reported Wednesday.
The man who turned himself in after the incident "fired a bullet by mistake when he was charging his gun," Al-Qabas daily said, adding that the bullet hit the groom and killed him.
He told police that it was all a mistake and that he was shocked by the bullet coming out and penetrating the back of his friend, turning the wedding into a funeral.
The incident took place in the village of Salibiya, in the tribal Jahra province, highlighting the problem of the availability of personal weapons among tribesmen in the oil-rich Gulf emirate.

Celebratory gunfire is common among the tribes although the use of personal weapons is banned.

Turbine D 8th Oct 2012, 23:55 MIAMI (AP) — The winner of a roach-eating contest in South Florida died shortly after downing dozens of the live bugs as well as worms, authorities said Monday.
About 30 contestants ate the insects during Friday night's contest at Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach about 40 miles north of Miami. The grand prize was a python.
Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach became ill shortly after the contest ended and collapsed in front of the store, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office statement released Monday. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities were waiting for results of an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

Basically, two drunk youths are train surfing on the roof of an electric commuter train when one of them decides to have a piss. An arc was created and he was seriously burned. No need to guess where on his body the arc earthed out.
Fittingly, the hospital he was admitted to was "Percy"de Clamart!
