Hi,

Did my YOU Session awhile ago, got the job I wanted... AEA.
I have a few questions to ask if one could be willing to assist me it would be appreciated.

1 - What happens at the Assessment Day for AEA, Detail would be great.

2 - How long do you spend away every year (Literally)

3 - The pay is very good when you to finish your training 70'000 odd (That is the base pay and service allowance, doesn't include flying allowance right?). How much does it increase when you go on exercises (Hawaii) and when you do operational/deployments (Up north, along the coasts and the middle east)

4 - I am in a De-Facto relationship, will the RAAF support my girlfriend (Moving her around etc etc)

5 - Any suggestions on what I can do that would increase my chances of getting it WILL be beyond appreciated.

Hope all is well
Blake

First thing I'd do is learn to spell Airborne correctly. :E

After that, congrats and good luck. :ok:

Mate,

If your prime motivation is the money, you will not pass all the training!

I can't speak for the assessment day, but if you get selected for training, you have a lot of hard work, and attitude adjustment, ahead of you before you make it to the flying squadrons.

Good luck with your assessment day, let us know how it goes.

M`lad,a few points to ponder;
1.No idea, but a good start would be a lot of self-motivation,lateral thinking/problem-solving,a fierce determination to succeed, and knowing everything about the job and the RAAF.
2 As much or as little as the Service demands.
3.No idea, but take the point that others make.
4.Don`t know about RAAF,but they are not there to support `camp-followers`,unless you are married(depending on Rules),so your pocket will take the hit...
5.Ditch Sheila before she ditches you,otherwise you`ll maybe get a `DJ`,or a `text` when least expected,ie during training,exercises,possibly a `War`,or whatever; saves paperwork.
At your age(19),you should have motivation to be the `best`,and willing /able to accept what is thown at you.Everything else takes second/third...Remember,it`s easier to rent a `car/bike` for a day or two ,than to buy one....

1. No idea
2. 6 months +
3. Not that much extra for deployments. MEAO good money (I would not plan on the MEAO as being a reliable source of extra income)
4. Google ADF PACMAN, It lays it all down for you.
5. If your in it for the money you will always be whingeing about everything else. Go and get a light aircraft ride to see if you get airsickness. If you are going to get airsickness in any aircraft it will be a P3 (especially during ASW), If you do you will have a miserable existence. Overall the best cones are ones who love flying and have a genuine interest in operating the kit.

Mate,
The pay is the least of your worries. Rest assured probably a lot more than your civvie mates. Unless they are driving big trucks in the Pilbara.

As far as the assessment day is concerned learn everything you can about the role, the P3 and the RAAF in general. A key hint, the primary role of the P3 is not SAR, as some have answered in the past its just the most publicised.

As Rogan82 points out if you are going to get airsick, it will be in a P3. You wont even go near an aircraft till the final months of course, it is something you need to be prepared for and at this stage there is only one other aircraft type AEAs can be posted to and that is after a tour on P3s.

Getting airsick in itself is not an issue most P3 aircrew get sick at some stage, its whether you have the capacity to work through it. Unfortunately its not something they can test for during selection.

If you get accepted, be prepared for a lot of study in your own time during training.

Good luck
