QANTAS have no record of the phone call, so did he actually call them on a proper number?

It sounds like his call was somehow diverted to a dead line or there was some kind of technical error which meant his call left the que and just got stuck in a loop, without any of the staff even knowing he was there. I mean no one would keep someone on hold for that long knowingly....surely!
