View Full Version : need a CPL counting my previous flying hours

Hello Captains,

I am in a deep problem if somebody can then please help me out.

I from Indian went to New Zealand for my initial CPL training received a PPL and did more then 100's hours then came back for my DGCA exams in the meanwhile the school got closed down. The head took the money away and also did a few things so that we were unable to enter new zealand.

So i started training for CPL in India (since i cannot go to other school in NZ) flew some hours in 20's but the problem is the flying hours i flew in new zealand all is not accounted only 40 hours are counted for the total of my CPL in India.

I am completely ****** money is all gone and flying hours are also not accounted please help

You need to explain the situation a little more.
Do you have a logbook that has the NZ hours listed?
Is this logbook signed off or otherwise authenticated by the NZ school before you left?
Do you have a copy of your training records?
Do you have all your invoices from the school backing up your claims?

I assume under DGCA rules they can only accept 40 hrs of your training since you have not completed the CPL course in NZ.

If you have reasonable evidence you have flown these hours it should not be a problem to continue in the USA.
Get a validation based on you NZ PPL, do your FAA Instrument rating and continue for the CPL. assuming you have approximately 150 hrs now you dont really need that much more;


Transition to different type and avionics and airspace 10 hrs
Instrument rating 50 hrs
CPl SE training 20 hrs
CPL ME training 20 hrs ( 15 airplane and 5 simulator)


If your time building that you have done in NZ meets all the US CPL criteria as far as distance and duration you're fine.

Yes i do have a signed logbook + i have 3 certificates of 1 my flying hours and 2 that i did my flying from that school and 3 till what time i trained. I also have a PPL from NZ CAA.

I just have an invoice which he had charged me but it is not complete (the CEO gave me invoices of my 1 installment only and that too with mistakes in it ).

Yes i enquired with DGCA they considered only 40.

I inquired with FAA and also sent all the documents to FSDO via attachments in email but even after repeatedly emailing them they do not reply back.

Are you a member of FAA or Do you have a friendly relationship with an FAA officer or something can you please tell him/her about my situation and provide his email id to me so that i know where is my application for the process of recognizing my flying hours for a FAA CPL.

One more thing i have heard that you need to give only 1 exam for PPL, CPL and IR rating in FAA, is it true ? and that too there are 1000 questions out of which only is asked in the exam.

Ket,

You are going about this the wrong way.
A random FSDO will have no idea what to do with this information.
If you do intend to finish in the USA:


Find a good reliable school (not the cheapest)
Apply for the validation with the link provided.
Bring all paperwork,invoices,logbooks, training records that you have
Start practicing for the FAA PPL written test, you dont need to take it again just practice for your general knowledge
Pass a written test for the IFR (start practicing now)
Pass a written test for the CPL (start practicing now)


You can order training materials from Gleim Home Page (http://www.gleim.com) or practice for free on Pilot Practice Page (http://www.exams4pilots.org) but their database is not the most current but still good for training.

This seems a great risk, after paying them the fees coming to America and then FSDO will decide .............. and if something happens then ???

After the things happened with me in NZ i want to be pretty sure about my flying.

I think you must be an owner of a flying school or may be the CEO. So you must be knowing a officer who can solve this without me coming to America and do it.

I am ready to provide you all my certificates and log book and every thing also the form filled up.

And if this will be done i will straight away take admission in ur school.

what say ?

Uh no.
I work for a flight school yes, but sending your logbook to a complete stranger is a not a good idea.
Apart from the fact stuff still gets lost in the mail.

The FSDO does not decide, the rules do:
Read 14 CFR 61.41, this allows flight training received form NON-US Instructors to be counted towards a certificate or rating.
14 CFR 61.41 - Flight training received from flight instructors not certificated by the FAA. - Code of Federal Regulations - Title 14: Aeronautics and Space - Subpart A: General - Id 19563103 - vLex (http://cfr.vlex.com/vid/61-received-instructors-certificated-faa-19563103)
Read 14 CFR 61.51 this requires you what to log
FAR Part § 61.51: Pilot logbooks -- FAA FARS, 14 CFR (http://www.flightsimaviation.com/data/FARS/part_61-51.html)


You need to start the proces of validating your NZ PPL as this can take up to 60 days. You will be send a letter of verification by the FAA which is valid for 6 months.
Which means you need to complete your CPL training within 6 months or apply for a new letter while you are in the USA.

ketkimapzoom please let me know if you were flying solo or somebody or other was siting with you for joyride or any other thing.Also let me know how many years ago did you took the training at New Zealand.

CPL 777 i did have a PPL as per their syllabus and i did my training in 2009.
