I know it is not a great question, but with your experience where do you think I might be happiest? Family at home in UK, me commute.

I have some experience of foreign culture and ask what you guys have experienced and recommend or share.

Had the misfortune of working with RYR/BRK, so I am now pretty resilient.

JAPAN.....

Simple non-stop civilised commute from Europe or US, and as long as someone is covering your cost of living reasonably, it would be my choice. Reliable, safe surface transit by excellent local or main-line trains. ( Drive on the left ) Plenty of stuff to do inside or outside cities on time off. Simple to organise family visits. Depends what your occupation is, but even out in the countryside English language seemed cover most leisure situations. A bit of skiing not far from NRT ( with thermal springs if memory serves )

I found that carrying a Japanese script crib to cover a few standard items to use in small restaurants where no English menu available was useful.
Only problem I ever heard about was a possible problem getting served with a visible tattoo!

Police, security and other authorities seemed friendly enough to foreigners. At least never heard of anything bad.

If you're UK, it's a long way, but a breeze compared to getting in and out of one or two of the other places.........

Forget Fiji. The best places are taken up by resorts where tourists come in, may do one excursion between scuba diving or sitting by the pool and then go home. The rest is shabby, fairly poor and no decent beaches. However there is an expat community but you have to fit in. No good for kids.

If you pick Japan, don't attempt to live in Tokyo, unless you are very, very wealthy or like living in a closet.
