Unlike the chinese medical, you don't need to be an astronaut here;blood test, chest x- ray, ECG,urine, eyes, ears test. Flyer1015 26th Jul 2012, 02:27 Yeah but what if you fail something? Suppose like missing certain beeps in certain frequency ranges during the hearing test. This would be a bad time to find out you're medically disqualified... after having quit a job in the home country, and moved to Doha. It should be done in the interview process, so if there are issues, it's obvious from the beginning. Fogrunner 27th Jul 2012, 03:16 The medical is basically cut paste UK CAA. There a couple of links in the mideast section if you can find them also you can search the QCAA website for the requirements. You are dead right though if something pops up on the medical that can't be rectified you get an all expenses paid trip home. Chinchilla.612 28th Jul 2012, 16:41 Speedhold, I'll just add one bit to Fogrunner's comment about it being basically cut paste UK CAA and that is to note there are exceptions. An ex colleague of mine came out here with a full JAA class one medical and was taking approved medication for a minor condition. The meds approved by JAA were not, however, approved by QCAA and long story short he is now back in Blighty. If you have any health worries it is quite possible to arrange a QCAA medical in Qatar for yourself before quitting the current job but otherwise it is just one of those "risks" of coming out here to work with QR really....... All the best, Chinchilla speedhold 28th Jul 2012, 20:56 Thanks I don't have any health issues I just wanted to know about the medical F14 28th Jul 2012, 22:24 There are two medical centres, doing the initial medicals. They do a very thorough medical and the standards are the same as the JAA. However many folk down here may have done their initial many, many years ago. They tend to take the JAA examination as a rubber stamp for most of the "cough and drop" type stuff. Then you get sent to the various hospital departments for Chest X-ray, bloods, eye-test, hearing, blood pressure, weight and height. They picked up things on a few guys which weren't a problem for the aviation medical, but needed further investigation for personal health. You need to bring cash (it is refunded by the company later). Cost for a 1st time pass is about 1300QR. If you need extra tests or medication this will double. Nearly everyone had high blood pressure, which I think may be due to the high summer temperatures, or the difference from in the cool aircon inside. All but one of my group passed. On reflection it was good for those of us mid to later career to get a full mot, chest exam, eyes, blood work. We had some very sad early deaths, heart attacks and strokes in my Loco career. For those with worries I do know Peter Orton of Stansteds Aviation Medica is QCAA approved & as always very helpful perritopiloto 29th Jul 2012, 08:05 F14 Hi. So, can you get you QCAA medical done there? Or is it just to very your suitability? Thanks F14 29th Jul 2012, 09:05 I think Aviation Medica does do initials now, however I'm not 100% sure. If you're joining Qatar Airways, it's probably better to do it all down in Doha as part of your new joiners program. perritopiloto 29th Jul 2012, 09:43 F14. Thanks for the info. Just willing to check that everything is fine before going to Doha and before quiting my job. Thanks |
