I was out walking in the countryside just south of Pocklington, East Yorks, last week and came across this alongside an old canal. I was quite touched that someone had taken the trouble to get it put there. :D

Interesting that the plaque states that Sgt Wheatland did not recover from his injuries from that crash and the web site says that he did recover but died in a subsequent crash.

Fog of war I guess.

It always revives my belief in my fellow man when I see things like this, showing they are far from forgotten, this one brings it home..

Thanks Tom. At least the plaque got the date of his death correct, if not the cause.
