View Full Version : Survey - pronunciation of Pprune
Sunnyjohn 15th Jul 2012, 12:31 OK. Having failed to get a sensible (or any) answer regarding the above, may I prevail upon you lovely people to do a little survey.
Do you pronounce Pprune?:
1 - prune (as in the dried fruit)
2 - pee prune (as it looks and sounds
3 - Some other way (tell us!)
Ta.

Ancient Observer 15th Jul 2012, 12:32 Pee prune.
Can't stand the thought of that second P being silent.
G-CPTN 15th Jul 2012, 12:47 Haven't we just had a thread about this?

goudie 15th Jul 2012, 12:49 Come to think of it, I hardly ever utter the word but if I do, ie recommend it to a friend, as I did recently, I would say ''prune but it's spelt p-p-r-u-n-e'' and explain why. IMHO it's common sense!
hellsbrink 15th Jul 2012, 13:16 Having failed to get a sensible (or any) answer regarding the above,
You actually expected a sensible answer to your question in your other thread?
The mind is now completely boggled..........
G-CPTN 15th Jul 2012, 14:45 Do you pronounce PPRuNe?:
1 - prune (as in the dried fruit)
2 - pee prune (as it looks and sounds
3 - Some other way (tell us!)
Yes - all of the above, with the answer to question 3 being pee pee arr you enn eee followed by Professional Pilots' Rumour Network (I'm presuming that there would be more than one professional pilot).
I had the occasion to approach a stranger and enquire whether he might be a member of this forum, so I utilised all options in order to explain myself (and avoid offending him by apparently calling him a prune).
MadsDad 15th Jul 2012, 14:51 I recall wandering into a pub, in which I was a total stranger, and gazing round in a confused manner. Upon which I was approached by a rather attractive female who asked me 'If I was to say "Prune" to you would it mean anything'.

Yeah, was wondering where my post went.

Milo Minderbinder 15th Jul 2012, 16:21 I recall wandering into a bar, in South Carolina in which I was a total stranger, and gazing round in a confused manner, and some ugly bint asked me if I'd come for a shag.
All I could do was splutter "sorry I'm no good at that kind of thing" and run to the bar.
God she was UGLY
Only later did I find out what she'd meant
goudie 15th Jul 2012, 16:30 For those of us wondering........

Sunnyjohn 15th Jul 2012, 21:28 Thanks you for your replies and apologies that a thread that I started degenerated into the usual (put whichever adjective you consider is suitable).
Milo Minderbinder 15th Jul 2012, 21:34 well what do you expect if you pointlessly duplicate a thread from two days ago?
As has already been pointed out

Howard Hughes 15th Jul 2012, 23:15 Does this make the Professional pilots Prunes? What of those who have no afilliation with aviation? Pruneless? What of the fairer sex? Prunettes? There are many questions that must be answered...:}
jamesdevice 15th Jul 2012, 23:27 Just remember that prunes are nothing more than wrinkled dried up plums.
broadreach 16th Jul 2012, 00:25 Pee Pee Rune.
Or any other way you want.
troppo 16th Jul 2012, 09:21 Ppruined :E
goudie 16th Jul 2012, 10:38 The villian in the piece is, of course, the rather odd title of the website, which is a bit of a misnomer.
Whilst Ru-mours, Ne-tworked by P-rofessional P-ilots, play a part in postings to the website, I would suggest they are in the minority.
I have no wish to start a rumour but could there, perhaps, be a new title in the offing?
If so, any suggestions?

gingernut 16th Jul 2012, 22:28 Mrs g calls it p-prune.
I call it "I'm just going on pp-r-yune going to bed?"
FullOppositeRudder 17th Jul 2012, 06:10 I never speak of it in public. It's part of my secret other life; one of my darker secrets. But if placed under duress and forced to confess, I would probably use option 2.
sitigeltfel 17th Jul 2012, 07:36 After another thread pull this morning I realise it is pronounced - "Nocommentonislamwillbetolerated".
Wholigan 17th Jul 2012, 08:17 Nothing like a good assumption!
There were 2 threads started on Islam this morning.
BOTH WERE PULLED BY THE THREAD STARTER!
But that doesn't make for nearly such a good conspiracy theory though does it?
Sunnyjohn 17th Jul 2012, 12:17 well what do you expect
I don't expect anything - I just find it rather sad.
if you pointlessly duplicate a thread from two days ago?
It wasn't duplicated - the two threads have different titles and different subjects
As has already been pointed out
Indeed - twice.
I recall wandering into a pub, in which I was a total stranger, and gazing round in a confused manner. Upon which I was approached by a rather attractive female who asked me 'If I was to say "Prune" to you would it mean anything'.
Well, what happened next Mads? (We live vicariously here, you know)
probes 17th Jul 2012, 13:58 Just asking, Sjohn, why does one have to pronounce it any way at all? Are you going to have a presentation or something on the topic? :E
dazdaz1 17th Jul 2012, 14:48 Could I lay this topic to rest once and for all..... The founder of this site Danny had a stutter, it's Prune.
