Shouldn't that be Saint'sman?
Tankertrashnav 12th Jul 2012, 21:49 Of couse it could be Saints'man - if there is more than one saint!
con-pilot 12th Jul 2012, 21:57 Boy, somebody is really bored. :p
spekesoftly 12th Jul 2012, 22:01 More than one ? Shirley that'd be Saints'men
Shack37 12th Jul 2012, 22:16 They"re not apostrophes, they"re inverted commas, sometimes called "quotes" '''''''''
Basil 13th Jul 2012, 00:20 Stolen from the Guardian
Yup! I can believe that.
Arm out the window 13th Jul 2012, 00:32 Of couse it could be Saints'man
The standard of pedantic spelling and grammar complaint posts these days is shocking. I don't think we should have to put up with them, and frankly, I'm flabbergasted and appalled, not to mention discombobulated.
Yours sincerely,
Disgusted of Queensland.

in what way:confused:
Not enough ?
Too many?
or inacuarate ?
How do you feel about dyslexic speed typing that some us perform? Do we need more of it or do we need a spelling and/or grammar icon to auto-proof a post before it goes postal?
If truth be known the PPRuNe post police exist only for this one purpose since they are not capable of reasoned human thought.
PS. I used to go in and correct a few glaring mistakes after I hit the submit button. But now that they immediately autoflag the post as edited thus drawing attention to my foibles anyway, I say what the heck and let it go with all its warts

Oh look, an American has missed irony ... :ok:

If a Saint'sman lost his faith, would that be apostasy?
chuks 13th Jul 2012, 05:51 Sir Herbert Gussett missed that the American got 'inaccurate' wrong! Good God, Sir!
sisemen 13th Jul 2012, 07:03 More than one ? Shirley that'd be Saints'men
I find it amusing that when someone refers to my "handle" in these august fora they inevitably write 'siseman' instead of 'sisemen' believing it to be a singular 'name' instead of the more correct 'nemesis' in reverse.
Oh how I laugh!
Blacksheep 13th Jul 2012, 07:04 Its me, it's mine, I'm doing fine!!!!
Getting it's wrong isnt a crime.
Cacophonix 13th Jul 2012, 07:12 But now that they immediately autoflag the post as edited thus drawing attention to my foibles anyway, I say what the heck and let it go with all its warts
Another new and very irritating feature of this site. The silly little text box used to initially post is not conducive to reviewing one's own drivel so generally I would do my best and then post, edit and then update within a minute or so. Now we have the stupid "edited" note immediately.
Whatever the reason for this change it is (it's) pointless.
Rant mode off.
Caco
probes 13th Jul 2012, 07:16 yep, it does discourage self-editing (:E), but I read in the computer issues (I think) it's needed to prevent bots. Meaning a side-effect to that or something.

The SSK 13th Jul 2012, 08:44 Come on, put me out of my misery. Its a picture of something, seems to be a hand holding something round (could be a head).
Ive gone to the bother of copy/pasting it into Word, making it bold and shrinking it but thats as far as my lousy eyesight will take me.
Checked for spelling and correct use of apostrophes.
Mach Turtle 13th Jul 2012, 11:20 I find it amusing that when someone refers to my "handle" in these august fora they inevitably write 'siseman' instead of 'sisemen' believing it to be a singular 'name' instead of the more correct 'nemesis' in reverse.
Color me enlightened. I thought it was a sort of pseudo-Spanish answer to the question, "Is that semen?"
Lord Spandex Masher 13th Jul 2012, 11:56 Punctuation - The difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit.
Now we have the stupid "edited" note immediately.Whatever the reason for this change it is (it's) pointless.
Whenever I want to edit a post (almost every time),I just post the corrected version and then go back and delete the one I wasn't happy with.I detest the 'edited' note too.
Pugilistic Animus 13th Jul 2012, 15:58 TWT
With my horrible typing and punctuation and spelling...sounds like a good idea... although I never get it quite right :uhoh:
critter592 13th Jul 2012, 18:22 Caco,
I always double-check my drivel before posting here...! :}
Lord Spandex Masher,
Punctuation also saves lives.
F'rinstance:
"Let's eat Grandma!"
vs.
"Let's eat, Grandma!"

Sunnyjohn 13th Jul 2012, 18:35 Following the privatisation of Further Education Colleges in 1992, it was decided to set up a forum. It was quite reasonably named the Colleges' Employers' Forum, because that was exactly what it was. The name had to be changed because it was rarely written correctly.
Just to confuse, there is a Sixth Form Colleges' Forum and a Sixth Form Colleges Employers Forum. This is exactly how they are written; the first is correct, the second, not.
I taught English to mature students who were brushing up their English before taking their Nursing Degree. Needless to say, apostrophes caused problems. I told them 'If in doubt, leave it out'. Greengrocers is far less confusing than Greengrocer's.
