I'd like to try and pick up a new camera at dollar prices, either in the Galleria or at IAH. Unfortunately the interweb is not offering me much inspiration, anyone offer a personal view?

If he's still there, talk to Charlie at Houston Camera Exchange. He's a Leica expert. The new Leica V Lux 40, at US prices with all the Adobe software included, is an excellent buy.

Do Not end up paying sales tax. If they have a branch in the state you're in, or no awareness of foreign shipping, you're stuck with 8% upwards. 8.25% in Texas.

B&H up in the north east are very professional, though prices not the cheapest. Closed on Saturdays.

As far as sales tax refunds are concerned, Texas Tax Back has an office in the Galleria. You'll have to bring the purchased item along, together with the receipt, your passport, Crew ID and some proof of itenerary.

You'll find them opposite the Apple Store, one floor up. Be prepared for a long wait as it gets busy in there at peak hours.

B & H was also mentioned, but in my experience they won't ship to hotels.

All the staff in Houston Camera Exchange are very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't remember his name, but there is a VERY clued up Canon guy who works there. Brought a Canon 7D a couple of years ago and he couldn't have been more helpful.

The only trouble is finding it! And then getting through the prison barred front entrance. :ok:
