(Caution: noisy.)

Literally smashing: windows in public buildings in Brasilia, including the Supreme Court, were smashed on Sunday, when two Mirage 2000 fighter-bombers did a flyby in excess of Mach 1. Oops ..! (Surprised this hasn't been mentioned here already, actually.)

Ive seen other videos of supersonic flybys at low alt breaking windows, but at higher alt, only the sound heard and no damage done. See the Myth Busters testing video for example. the space shuttle regularly made sonic booms over land but damage ? no. I regularly heard sonic booms from french military aircraft training over water in southern france. No damage ever, but certainly loud cracks more than boom sound.
Why then the ban on supersonic flight over land by concorde ?

Local bloke at home did exactly that. Did his career no good at all by the sound of it.
