Hi,
I am looking for a nice hotel that will accept a Heli for a few days stay, on the outskirts of London,
I would prefer one that doesn't need exemption from rule 5 from the caa...
But what is close enough for a short taxi, car or train ride into the center ??
And not the heliport either as parking kills the job.

Regards

Nelly

I’d suggest The Grove www.thegrove.co.uk (http://www.thegrove.co.uk/) It’s about 4 miles north of the Heathrow CTR and has both Tube & Overground lines within a short taxi ride. It’s a quite nice hotel. Also before/after your stay, you could pop into Denham (EGLD) which is just 7 miles southwest for a fuel top up.

I'm not sure if this is an option for you but my mother-in-law has a rather large farm which sits just to the south of Banstead, Surrey at the start of heli lane 7 I think, and is very helicopter friendly. Equally both Chipstead and Tattenham Corner rail stations are located 10 minutes away in a car.

Travelling time to London on the train is around 35 to 40 minutes, to either London Bridge or London Victoria.

For a small fee you can land and park a helicopter for as long as you want leaving you options where to stay, either nearby or in London.

I can forward the details if interested.

Is jet A1 available at Denham ??

The main fuel pumps are AvGas. JetA1 is available from PremiAir. They are open 7-7 Mon-Fri, but on weekends not always available, hence the “JetA1 by arrangement” noted in the EGLD info plate.

Wow, and London is hosting the olympics and all it can offer the rest of the world is one ridiculously stitched up and over priced central Helipad? :ugh:

Gotta lurve the Brits... :D

RMK - if The Grove is only a "quite nice hotel", what sort of hotel do you give an unqualified review to? It's almost sounding like you'd prefer to pay Battersea's landing and parking fees (even if they have reduced them 20% for light singles). LOL

Nelly - another option that springs to mind would be the Hilton at Cobham (http://www.hilton.co.uk/Cobham), but get your taxi to Weybridge station and not Cobham for a swifter journey into town. Or the Oatlands Park Hotel (http://www.oatlandsparkhotel.com/) in Weybridge?

griffothefog - yes, and the CAA are banning flying helicopters within X million miles of London for the duration of the Games unless your name has a Z in it, you've filled out a raft of online forms on a day with an Q in it, at least five weeks in advance, etc etc (well, not quite, but...)

Re “quite nice” you’re reading too much into my wording. The Grove is very nice/stylish. I’ve flown into Grove/Clivedon/Danesfield and spent weekends at the The Grove. It would be my pick and you’d have the chance of being near to a “Tube” line and not waiting in the middle of nowhere at an overland train station.

Well, here's one for you...
Looked at the grove.... Very nice indeed,
So proceeded to try and book...
Top notch room £700.00 per night..

Oh ,,,,,,,, you want to land a helicopter ....... We need a few weeks notice for that . So we can arrange for it...

350 acres and they have to "arrange" for a helicopter to land .....
This came from"head of estate reservations"

How have you guys managed to land here ????
Will have to look at the others..
Cheers guys...

I have used Danesfield House Hotel quite a few times.

Danesfield House | Luxury Country Hotel and Spa in Marlow | Buckinghamshire | UK (http://www.danesfieldhouse.co.uk/)

Never yet been charged a landing fee, and very easy to find.

"Over the hedge" to Wycomb for fuel, and White Waltham is also fairly close.

Did you get your 120 back in the air yet ?

How long is it into London center by taxi, train or underground, (which is available) from danesfield ??

would the waybridge hotel need rule 5 exemption

I've been in there a few times, it's accessible from the river quite easily, not a congested area. :ok:

Lovely big landing area, 0.1 to Elstree for fuel near Cockfoster railway or taxi to London!

Nelly -

Oatlands Park is on H3 to all intents and purposes
Hilton at Cobham is on the southern edge of the zone, just N of the OCK beacon. Just watch the wires
Just remembered the Holiday Inn at Sunbury which is right on H3 by the river. Taxi to Walton BR for the quick line into town.
Brooklands Museum pad may be available too, call 01932 857381 and ask for Julian Temple. Probably more secure than hotels too. Weybridge BR

So we tried the west lodge park hotel, at cockfosters,
Nice little hotel, no landing fee, nice helipad with windsock.
Really nice food and realistically priced.

Cockfosters underground station just down the road, Piccadilly line straight into London

I think we will be using this site more often..

Sorry for ignoring you - glad you found a spot.

No..... Still waiting ...... but so close! Currently just using my 44.

The gearbox is back from its French holiday and all set to go back into the airframe tomorrow. That leaves the engine to mount, all the linkages, then blades, track & balance and ground runs etc.

Hopefully a little over a week to go.

Just in time for the Great Olympic Shut-Down

Some days you're the windscreen; some days you're the fly!

Hi john, good to hear your nearly there,

Do EGB have the microvib kit for the balancing ?
I went to London Heli to get my floor weights tuned,
I liked what the tuning did to the ride so much, I went out and bought the microvib kit. Then spent a few days, getting them bang on.....

I recently flew with an examiner at Gloucester for my lpc, who made a comment....

I have never been in a 120 as smooth as this before...

But ah..... The rrpm has to be around the 411 mark as that's the 3per I tuned to !!!
A little time and effort makes the ship the smoothest ride ever....

Worth doing..

I loved the danesfield hotel as well. Their afternoon tea is delicious and so was the food at the orangery restaurant

But i would say one of the best experiences I had was at the london bridge hotel,
