Bit of a cabaggey question but anyhoo.
Does anyone know when we can start wearing pcs for normal day to day use such as ccs and FOD plodding etc back in the UK? Cant see the point of having brand new kit and not clearing out a wardrobe of all the old s*** if i can wear the newstuff

Yes you can - in fact all recruits are issued with MTP only these days. Latest from CAS is that he wants it tucked in around the Station and then untucked on ops - I know, don't shoot the messenger!

Cheers. Will remind myself to throw all my cs95 into a bag to go back to stores then :ok:

I think the Royal Signals are wearing Personal Clothing System (PCS - not MTP which is Multi Terrain Pattern that is the material) tucked in. I know PCS was supposed to be worn untucked, but I think it makes you look like a lager drinking soccer yoof!

Nope, "tucked in and down" was what I heard from the SWO whilst on Station - although he did refer to it as "whilst in barracks" and I informed that I only frequented a Mess!

I've been asked to trial a blue PCS for the RAF to wear. The RN are already wearing dark blue PCS on their D Boats (ie. Daring, Duncan, Diamond, etc...).

Plus baseball caps for the Senior Service, although I doubt we'll get these too...

I do like the crests. I think that Squadron, Unit or Station Crests will look very smart if we go for this...

In my opinion, we either go ultra modern like this or go back to Battle Dress in non "hairy mary" material - I hate the General Purpose Jacket and the jumper (especially the V neck) :yuk:

I think it would help if they did a belt and shirt that fitted the young lass in the foreground - sacks of spuds comes to mind. As usual, DE&S have come up with "one size fits no-one" with PCS; my first pair of trousers in the same size gave me a Camel's Toe and the shirt was so tight under the arms that I looked like John Barrowman!

My army colleagues tell me that the debate on Aarse and the wider command chain on the shirt in or out question attracted more staff effort than SDSR.

I can't decide if this says more about PCS or SDSR.

Please tell me this is a spoof, the clothes the Tracey family wore in Thunderbirds fitted better

Looking at the photo of the Navy folk it looks like they've maintained the 'one size fit no-one' line in the contract that we seem to have today.

I have not yet seen a military uniform from any other part of the world that seems to be made of such cheap materials or that fits as badly as ours.

Having spent a (little) time with our dark blue friends I have always had a sneaking admiration for their smartness and wondered how they can remain so presentable when confined to a sub (for example) - something to do with all those Chinese laundry men?

The picture of the 2 gents and one lady in their new uniforms therefore fills me with a kind of despair, finished off by the bridge picture & the baseball cap.... what has become of our Navy?

Actually the one-size fits all seems to be quite good as there don't appear to be any porkers there.

Now if it were RAF aircrew or RN submariners I bet some slack would be taken up :)

I recall many years ago, when we had pride in appearance, that it was the norm to have one's V-force zuit suit remodled and lined to improve its fit and style. What is to stop the user having a bit of nip and tuck?

As did the debate on shirt lifting?

Does it matter? They always have and always will look a bit odd.

It could be worse. This is what Australians have to cope with....

So, all we have to do now is to convince our senior officers not to mix blue shirts and DPM or any other disruptive cam clothing outside of their MQ`s !!

There used to be a saying about uniform as issued 'If it fits, you're deformed'. Looks like that has been resurrected and made an instrument of policy!

I saw a stacker wearing the new issue RAF blue uniform today. And to be honest it looked awful. Looked like everything was two sizes too big. If it fitted properly then it might be ok. But honestly whats the point in blue pcs? If you want to save on costs of uniform then stick everyone in PCS for day to day work wear, and keep a set of ones for formal occasions.

I was in the RAF but attached to 24 Brigade (604 FAC). In 1970 we were on exercise in Germany. It was VERY muddy and we were all in "combat clothing" in hastily dug trenches. The AOC Germany paid a visit - he and his ADC were in their best blue with greatcoats (but no sword), tippy-toeing around muddy duckboards in their shiny shoes. I bet someone had an interview without coffee after that incident!
