A family tradition (amongst the males) has always been to drink this cocktail after a good session on the beer. Over the years the results have been surprising. It has become a right of passage; if a new prospective member of the family passes the test they can join the family. Here's the problem I now have. The recipie for the cocktail died, when my Uncle passed away several years ago. There's a big family gathering planned at Cherokee mansions for the summer, and I thought it would be nice to make a pitcher of the stuff (it was usually served in pint glasses) for the "after party party".

The best recipie I can find (I was only trusted to make it once, and I was about 13) is;
4 oz. Cranberry Juice
1 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Dark Rum
1 1/2 oz. Cachaça

I'm certain there was a healthy slug of Gin in the rocket fuel - does anyone have an alternative recipie? And yes I have been on Google! I will be very grateful, although I suspect my hangover in a few weeks time won't be....

Oh, and finally - would the members of the local puritan society please refrain from posting about how evil alcohol is / can be etc. I'm not that interested:mad:

I stumbled on a Pink Fairy recipe that uses Gin, though it's very different to yours:

50ml Absinthe
15ml Gin
75ml Rose Water
15ml Simple Syrup

Sounds perfectly awful but each to his own....!

Having had a look at this site and not having the old Waldorf Astoria cocktail book to hand I'd try adding a drizzle of Cointreau, just to bring out the orange and if I were in South Africa I'd sprinkle a little Van der Hum in the bottom of the glass just to augment the cranberry.

I saw them play a concert many years ago: early 1970's

And there's me thinking that I was going to see pictures of Brightonites on the beach to-day in the sunshine.
