I'm hearing from my former colleagues at Flight Support that Menzies are about to announce a take over of all Airbase - Flight Support operations.
Can anyone add anything further?

I just wish someone would tell the staff! It's not fair that we are being kept in the dark. Someone somewhere will know SOMETHING!

An Airbase manager has been telling her social circle that the company is to be taken over by Menzies - not very professional when some of her friends are parents of her staff & she won't let on anything to them.

If these facts are true it might mean:-30 or ZERO hr short term contracts, ZERO overtime rates, ZERO sickness payments, ZERO bank holiday payments.:yuk: good luck!

Gee wizz... I wonder who THAT could be!? The sooner it happens the better. Hopefully Menzies installs their own management.

In any buyout case, your working terms and condition are protected.

Dream on
If Only that were true. Protection usually lasts about 6 months with some companies, if that. If your lucky they may buy your contract out !!!

Flight Support - Airbase has never really been a contender and it is not a surprise that one of the big boys are going to snap them up just for the contracts....
It is sad to see the competition narrowing in the UK market but it is not surprising in this financial climate

The reduction in competition might not be such a bad thing, certainly from a Handling agents and employees point of view. The industry has been a bit too competitive of late allowing the airlines to 'screw-down' on price resulting in ever worsening working conditions and profit margins.

Menzies Aviation buys flight support firm

Menzies Aviation has added three new airports to its UK ground handling network after buying regional company Flight Support.
The John Menzies division said the move would add Aberdeen, Isle of Man and Guernsey airports to its portfolio.
Flight Support, which handles about 34,000 turnarounds a year, was bought from Airbase Holdings Limited for £4.75m in cash.
A further £500,000 will be payable over the next two years.
Edinburgh-based Menzies said the acquisition would also further strengthen its position at Manchester Airport and increase existing relationships with Flybe, easyJet, Loganair, Aer Arran.
The deal also brings new customers in CityJet and Blue Island.
In July, Menzies announced it was to end its cargo operations at Glasgow, Birmingham, East Midlands and Manchester airports by the end of August.
The company said it wanted to focus its UK cargo business on London Heathrow, as well as smaller operations in Aberdeen and Belfast.
The company said the move would return its cargo business to profitability.

They couldn't have "announced" it any more spinelessly... Waited until all the managers knocked off for the afternoon and then sent it out in an anonymous email at quarter past five! Pretty much sums up the professionalism of Airbase and their senior management. They could have and SHOULD have at least had the common decency to tell us in person!

Heard Menzies will be taking all ground handling on in Guernsey for all flights in near future.

Well that would make sense considering that Flight Support was the only handling agent in GCI!

Aurigny are also third party ground handlers at GCI.
