We all know about the He-115 recently recovered from a Norwegian fjord, which I'm preparing to write about, but what I -don't- know is how many He-115s were built. Some sources say roughly 500, Wikipedia says 138.

Hate to admit it, but I suspect Wiki is correct this time.

Does anybody have any insight or information on this?

Putnam's German Aircraft of the Second World War quotes 'about 500' were produced.

Greetings from the original Cornwall! ;)

Wikipedia says 138.I'll take a guess that's a William Green figure, which he first mentioned in his book 'Warplanes of the Third Reich' in 1970 and repeated it for a two-part article on the He-115 in Air International in 1987, which is used as a source on the Wiki article...

(David Donald - source 2 - repeats Green's figure of 138)

However, everywhere else I look I see figures ranging from 250 to 500. Here's one, can't read German, but suspect 'Stuck' means 'article'? If so, 269 for this source...?

52 in 1939
76 in 1940
141 in 1944.

Total = 269.
