As the US independence day approaches I always get excited about fireworks.
When I was younger I used to build them also, perhaps when I have more time I will return to the hobby
as I was browsing Youtube I came across a few spectacular examples of true pyrotechny
Anyone else on pprune a 'pyro', if so, enjoy

If you like pyro then try this website Fireworks Forum (http://www.fireworks-forum.org.uk/)

It has some very good displays on it and info on upcoming events

To celebrate Independence day, and as a bonafide pyro, I tend to light up the nighttime skies with "fireworks" such as: Claymore mines, 155mm artillery shells, tracer rounds fired from my M4A1 assault rifle, parachute flares fired from my M109A3 - 155MM howitzer and a couple of 2,000 lb bombs released from my B-52 bomber.

Very exciting. But for some odd reason the neighbors usually scuttle once they see me on the 4th of July. I can't imagine why.

Rob... thanks for the link...:)

Rgbrock...actually tracers, parachute flares, explosive bolts etc fall into the realm of pyrotechnics...military pyrotechnics use some very exotic fuels and colorants such as amorphous boron...and zirconium ...that being said I'd definitely celebrate your fourth I'll bring some homemade HMX salutes...if you would be so kind as to supply the caps and detonators:}:}:}:ok:

M4A1 assault rifle

RGB I wish to purchase your Colt 5.56 and 1,000 rounds. Am
willing to exchange for my 27yo Thai wife - will throw in the
dog too if it comes with the M203 grenade launcher. With the
recent sad loss of my beloved L1A1 7.62 SLR this item will fill
the spot nicely. :)

So very sorry Slasher but my trusty Bushmaster E2S M4A1 "semi-automatic" assault rifle is not for sale. Besides which, it does not come with the M203 style grenade launcher.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your L1A1 but I really cannot part with my E2S.
Armageddon is just around the corner and I will have need of this rifle, plus most of the other toys I have stashed around the place!!!!!

Corrected to add: this weapon is a Carbine and not an assault rifle. Don't know why I keep referring it to as the latter. Although they certainly can be used in an assault!!!!

just blowing the fcuk out of everything!

As far as guns go I'd love to try the .50 cal BMG vs exploding targets...also wanna try .50 magnum revolver....:E

sitigeltfel I believe that maybe the headquarters of Dr. Konsake fireworks test facility....one function of that lab is to allow nonstandard fireworks to be tested for thermal decomposition, shock, friction and static sensitivity, mass 'detonation' propensity etc...really a government racquet because you can't obtain an EX number on certain Items without approval from basically one person ...and this is codified in the CFR's
the way around that is use American Pyrotechnics Association 87 'APA-87' approved chemicals, although although many pyros easily quit their lead and mercury addiction, however so many are still addicted to arsenic compounds....weaning
someone away from paris green (copper acetoarsenate) so that they comply with the APA standard maybe hard...it's easy to quit orpiment and realgar but very difficult to recover from a paris green blue addiction:}:}:}.....many many many ppl in pyrotechnics smoke in the US you must not do so within 50 ft iirc of a magazine

RedhillPhil...I would love to go to Malta.... although it can't come through verywell on video im sure you can tell us that the volume and concussion of those shells is significant

another Maltese thing is to take a butane tank place it into a cylinder pack around it with flash powder and launch those as shells-- a gas tank lampare-- creates a fireball and concussion...in the US lampares are done with bottles of diesel, gasoline or kerosene....very loud

I have just looked up the location of that pyrotechnics lab in the above post...it is not Dr. Konsanke's facilty which is located in the US....:O

I only wrote this clarification because this thread had a good amount of views...not because I like repeatedly posting in my own thread...:)
in Firework every country that manufactures them China Spain Italy US, are for all intents and purposes doing the same things, those countries have there masters of course but the Japanese and Maltese are the best

Is your pool a safety feature?? Usually it's the windows that go so a pool wouldn't help, I heard of one explosion involving 200lbs of flash breaking windows in a seven mile radius
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifm9BKf5ZbE
this explosion resulted in major hazmat reclassification in the world for fireworks...with some types now classed as high explosives

I adore fireworks.
This is the annual Brisbane Riverfire which gets about two hundred thousand spectators annually, though it's probably not world standard. It's not the same without the double dump and burn from the F-111s http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/puppy_dog_eyes.gif. Big, loud and local. We loved 'em. In The US a there's a similar event after the Kentucky Derby known as thunder over Louisville definitely not 'world class' but a tremendous volume of fireworks and an Airshow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0UgL5l7Jx0&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTeGnGIgHR8&feature=related

Australia has some very good choreographers though and I know they can put on world class productions...But the regulatory environment and the cost of labor in the US, Northern Europe and Australia stiffles large scale domestic production of fireworks but very high quality fireworks from China as well as domestics
fireworks are typically used in Australian displays

The reason Malta escapes is becuase all of the Maltese pyrotechnist are volunteers and it's entirely a labor of love...but they don't export those shells too dangerous...:\

Even Japan has large amounts of fireworks imported from China ( built to Japanese specs) and only the most elaborate shells are domestically produced and none are exported only displayed in Japan

In the future Displays will become less exciting because of two reasons
1. shells over 10 inches are now classified as UN 1.1G high explosives resulting massive increases in cost to transport them.... at least they can still be stored as low explosives---unlike bulk salutes
2. China refuses to ship shells greater than 8 inches I believe...and only few ports accept high explosives
:(
I much prefer fireworks like these:But it's so much easier to destroy than it is to create....:)

This is the display that won the Southport championships last year, its 18 mins long and done to a movie theme. When you think that it costs approx £1000 per minute of display and takes about 1hr set up for every minute of the display you can see how dedicated these guys are. We where there that night and the video does not do the display justice it was awesome

That was indeed a great display, they showcased the shells correctly with out stepping on each other yet kept the sky full....I saw they used lots of tourbillions, which are rare, the cremora pot fire balls in the intro , lots of horse tails..high quality symmetrical shells.. excellent mine and comet sequences....vivid colors especially the blue ----which is a very difficult color because the emitting species (CuCl+) exists only within a narrow temperature band and it's hard to get a bright blue (too hot) due to magnesium or magnalium which is also a deep blue...I really wonder what formula was used...:O

I can only imagine how many ematch cues they used up for that and the finale was astonishing... ..:ok::ok::ok:

Rob....
Yes, I have but whether or not it was legal at the time is another story...actually I just missed the registration deadline this year for Grucci 'shooters school' but the problem is, as you know if your shooting you can't be watching...though I doubt I'll go far with it unless I get a commercial drivers license with a hazmat endorsement....

my knowledge of fireworks comes mainly from the perspective of a builder I've made round shells up to five inches in diameterhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/cool.gif,... canisters up to three break and three inches in diameter (although some of those didn't work out too well...http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/embarass.gif
Ive also done mines and gerbs that performed pretty well even when they CATO'edhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/badteeth.gif ....and some marginal roman candles such activities taught me respect for the power of fireworks as I was surprised at the lift of even a three inch shell...http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/eek.gif

Unfortunately, fireworks clubs are rather far from here and during their conventions unless you used organic solvents for binding the stars and plastic shell parts, which I don't like--- you cant build any thing decent in just a day but the club will have the legal storage....even the purchase of display fireworks here would require contingency stroage in order to get your license Grucci withdrew that service leaving it near impossible to get your storage for your license, of course, forget about storing homebuilt fireworks in contingency no magazine owner wants the liabilty...

I do work on a small team from time to time (only cat 3 atm) I had a hunch that you were involved to some extent in fireworks... here in the US we don't have 'Cat3' fireworks those would most like be classified as 1.3g display fireworks,... I am sort of familiar with UK rules because I have a fireworks book 'Fireworks principles and practice' written by an author there Rev. Ronald Lancaster the owner of Kimbolton fireworks,... also you guys over there allow consumers with much more powerful devices, giant rockets, than we are allowed here

Stay Green...http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif

I found a tape I never listen to the music I just like the sound of the fireworks when I go they have there own beat ...I think like Japanese pyromusicals because the fireworks frequently play the roll of percussion, and augment by whistles the sound of the lifet charges and flying bees...the music of fire...:)

On July 8, 1776, the first public readings of the Declaration were held in Philadelphia's Independence Square to the ringing of bells and band music. One year later, on July 4, 1777, Philadelphia marked Independence Day by adjourning Congress and celebrating with bonfires, bells and Fireworks.I think the right to bear fireworks should have also been included in the bill of rights...so they can never take away our fireworks...:}:}:}

Slasher; What happened to the L1A1?

Yeh got yer PM Pinks thanks.

The L1A1 7.62 was taken by the local cops after I spat the dummy and shot a
bloody mongrel around the corner who'd bark non-stop from sunrise to sunset
and even then bark his bloody head off at a blade of grass growing. It is a bit
of a long story and there's more to it than that but that's how I lost it... :(

Don't forget where I live is gazetted semi-rural and taking the odd potshot at
the local wildlife is not uncommon - just in my case I blew away a member of
the local petlife.

BTW Lon the missus hates guns but she's been given instruction on the AK if
she ever need to defend herself and I'm not around (not that its a dangerous
area where we live). And certainly no AK47s in the Slasher house are pink!
