In January 2010 Tessa Jowell, then Minister for the Olympics in the previous government, told MPs: "Major sporting events can be a magnet for the global sex and trafficking industry; this is wholly unacceptable.

So why host one?

Will Euro 2012 or the Comonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 be worse?

Almost worth heading for London then, all the competition should drive prices down.

It won't because the supply will still probably not match the demand.

Maybe they should make shagging an Olympic sport - where's Slasher!

Given that most politicians are tarts, and will sell themselves and their grannies for a small price, how will we tell the difference between them and the extra prostitutes??

Shell, there is no reason not to hold the Olympics because a minor side effect is that prostitution may increase in activity to take advantage of the influx of potential (termporary) customers.

You can't ban the oldest profession, too many customers. I would like to see greater effort put on protecting the women, but that would require legalisation.

There is an institution here we refer to as the "Bonking bus". Two ladies of the game have an old camper van that they park up in lay-bys to provide services to passing lorry drivers etc.

They haven't been seen of late, so either the Gendarmes have been getting a bit more stroppy or there is likely to be a French registered camper cruising around Stratford.

Perhaps it's a cunning plan to boost sales of all those unsold tickets they tried to tell us had all been sold months ago?

At the 2006 World Cup in Germany the authorities set up drive-in 'Sex Huts' to both accommodate the trade and shield the eyes of sensitive Germans (sensitive Germans - now that's a thought!).

What's more the Police had to control the vehicle traffic due to queues on the roads stopping fans getting to the match.

The term "prostitute" gradually took on a Christian moralist tradition, as being synonymous with debasement of oneself or of others for the purpose of ill-gotten gains.

IIRC, during the Sydney Olympics there was a shortage, with the brothels actively recruiting in Melbourne and Brisbane, promising to pay for flights and accommodation, and offering top rate wages.

In 2000, my office overlooked a brothel, which was just up the road from a hotel where many of the Olympic hangers-on stayed. It was not noticeably under-patronised.

One day, we had a fire drill, and mustered on the normally quiet street outside. One patron seemed quite shy as he exited to a large audience.
I must try to find the posed photo of everyone from the office queuing at the door.:)

The real prostitutes will be better looking and will deliver what they promise.

That's also the difference between a consultant and a prostitute.

There is an institution here we refer to as the "Bonking bus". Two ladies of the game have an old camper van that they park up in lay-bys to provide services to passing lorry drivers etc.

Years ago near my home town there was a local "lady" known as "Transistor Lil". She used to stand in lorry parks waiting for her next "job". Apparently she used to travel all over the country in HGVs and she wasn't looking at the scenery but she could tell the make of the truck by the type of headlining it had.
