Legendary flat-picking guitarist Arthel "Doc" Watson has died aged 89 in the Winston-Salem medical Centre, North Carolina, after abdominal surgery.
We have lost one of the truly great players. A fine, humble human being who overcame blindness since the age of 1 to achieve greatness. He brought joy to countless numbers of people with his playing, and inspired thousands upon thousands of people to play acoustic guitar.
