Does anybody know why Sywell has NOTAMed a 10 mile radius up to 5,000' from 12:30 to 1600 tomorrow (30th May) for aerobatics practice? Even the Red Arrows only need a radius of 6 nm - which was the size of their RAT for their Monday 28th practice at Sywell.

314 square miles seems rather excessive.

'Cos they aren't as good as the Arrows?

Because it's not just a practice, it's the Advanced & Unlimited British National Championships on the weekend, so there will no doubt be some extensive activity around Sywell. The NOTAM mentions formation aeros as well so with all that going on you want to let people know. It's not a RA(T), just a NOTAM, although flying through Sywell's overhead would be most unwise!

The NOTAM for today (Wed) is nothing to do with the aerobatic competition.

The competition doesn't start until Thursday and the NOTAM for that is 2nm radius.

Maybe the one today is the Blades practicing?

Please avoid Sywell overhead from Thurs to Sunday. Last year I had to interrupt my competition flight as a twin flew through the overhead, right through the aerobatic box.
