This is a joke post - right?

Your profile claims you are interested in aviation and photography amongst other things. One would assume you know about foreshortening and perspective...

typical ignorance from the daily fail website (its the top article) not sure if anyone's told them about TCAS :ugh:

I'm no expert but you can tell both aircraft are the same type (777?) yet one appears larger than the other... So what does that tell you?

one appears larger than the other... So what does that tell you?The small one shrank in the wash because the water was too hot. ;)

I remember sitting on the jump seat of a departing flight ex-LHR (A320) and a few minutes after take-off our path crossed that of an A340 just above us, I would've sworn blind that it was 500 feet or less, but the TCAS showed that the vertical separation was bang on 1000 feet, which was the legal minimum. The captain chuckled that when in a hold in the same situation, that as the other aircraft turned in parallel they came closer as the measurement was from the centre-line of the hull and the wings of both the aircraft were that bit nearer.

I'm sure that both 777's were vertically separated as they should be by LHR ATC. Still, at least it kept the vacuous Kardashians of the front page for a day..

To be fair to the journalist, he does explain in the article that the photo is an optical illusion. He also states that one plane appears to be smaller that the other because it is "one or two miles away".

Father Ted is demonstrating some plastic toy cows to Dougal.

Father Ted: ...OK, one last time. These are small... but the ones out there are far away. Small... far away... ah forget it!

What? Airspace is three dimensional? Get away......!

Actually it would be reasonably easy to work out the distance. Given that both are 777 and the 777 dimensions are known the apparent size of the aircraft would allow for some math to work out the vertical separation.

However, I guess no one at the daily fail can count never mind practice responsible journalism.

Is it just me or does the first picture remind anyone else of a big dog sniffing a little dog's arse?
