I see Pacific Sun is searching for ATR cpt´s and fo´s.
Anybody got the details on pay, leave and accommodation etc.
Is it a good outfit, friendly people?
Any other useful info much appreciated:ok:

Is it possible for an european to go and work there, regarding Visas, certificates etc?

See if things have changed, last time I investigated that one you had to pay for a rather overpriced type rating yourself, including flights and accommodation.

Sorry can't help you with the interview process. However, this is only a job to consider if you are unemployed and have no reasonable prospects in Europe.
Money is poor, tax is high, cost of living in Fiji for things like rent, food and a motor vehicle need to be considered. And did I already mention the TAX?
Nadi sounds wonderful, but is a sh!thole really.
There are some beautiful places to visit in Fiji and as a tourist spending euro you will be welcomed. As a worker, not so welcome, but tolerated well enough to get by.
Fiji nationals very often leave their own 'paradise'to fly elsewhere, so that is telling.

Sorry can't help with the money, though I vaguely recall F/O on something like $30000 so that would probably put Captains on $60000 but whether those numbers were US or NZ currency I dunno.
Even if it was USD it would only pay food and rent after the tax came out.
Why not ask them for the terms and conditions? If you are an experienced ATR driver they would be stupid not to respond if they really are short of pilots. At least that way if they don't respond you know that they are either not really short of pilots at all, or are hoping to get cheaper labor from Africa or Russia or
somewhere.

Thank you for your insight on life in Fiji. May I ask how much time you have spent there? Or how long have you worked in Fiji?

Firstly, I must disagree that Nadi is a "sh!thole". My advice is visit Nadi and the surrounding islands then make up your mind if you can work in Fiji. The money would be secondary. Even with a salary of $30,000FJD you still can live comfortably if you are single. $60,000FJD - comfortably with a family.

For your reference please refer below to the tax rate for "resident individuals".

0-15,000 Nil
15,001-15,600 25% of excess over $15,000
15,601-22,000 150 + 31% of excess over $15,600
22,001+ 2,134 + 31% of excess over $22,000


If you work on progressive tax calculation, your Net Income (based on $30,000FJD) would be $23,103FJD/year. This would mean $1925.25/month. Lets say you pay $300/month on rent.....and $500 on food. This would leave you $1125FJD. For Fiji this amount is more than sufficient for savings and other costs.

A person looking for a job on a small island paradise like Fiji is either out of a job, or someone looking to kick start their career. Either way, I dont think beggars should be choosers and whiners. Pacific Sun is offering you an opportunity....take it or leave it. Stay in Europe and chase the Euro's. By the way....what is the tax in the European country you live in?

Brother, if you are paid in USD this would equate to $3455.82FJD/month = $41,470FJD/year! Average salary in Fiji is $7,000FJD/year! So already you are almost 6 times ahead. Going back to rent (Say $300FJD) and Food (say $500FJD)..... this would leave you with $2655.82FJD/month left over for other expenses and savings.

I am not sure what you are basing your advice on. :confused:

My advice to you.... do your homework before giving advice. If you are after the money.... fly something bigger.....bigger pay cheque. ;)

Ratu, I was not looking at it from the perspective of a local citizen, rather from that of the OP who appears to hail from Europe. An expat would probably have other financial commitments, or at least the expectation that he/she could enter into financial commitments at some stage. I don't see any European bank loaning money for a house based on a job in Fiji on local salary.
Absolutely agree, it wouldn't be a bad entry level job for someone with bugger-all experience. But for someone with reasonable experience on the ATR, they can get over twice the money I quoted by working in PNG and enjoy month-on/month-off, plus all accommodation and meals provided while on the job.
Yep, lived in both Suva and Nadi and flew for Air Pacific for six years and enjoyed it at the time. But Fiji offered no real future for a non-citizen then, or I would have made my life there because I sure liked the sailing!
I may even take the boat there next winter, but only if customs have had a change of heart about how long you can stay without wanting import duty etc. Any less than 18 months, no bonds and no strings attached, or any more than three pages of documents to fill in on arrival and sorry - I will spend my tourist dollars somewhere where they speak French......

Yes, there are many things to consider if you have commitments in your homeland. At the end of the day, Pacific Sun is one of many options for ATR drivers. As mentioned earlier it is ideal for a low timer or someone without a job and no other options.

I agree that PNG may offer twice what Pac Sun would, but if you think Nadi is a sh!thole....you should really spend some time anywhere in PNG. No offence to my buddies in PNG. Crime is a huge problem. Atleast in Nadi you can go out in the evenings and have a beer....in PNG you may have to have and armed escort.

I must say that a job in Air Pacific was once a near perfect job. I say "near perfect" because conditions could have been slightly better when compared with market rates. In saying this, the salary that is being offered now is still very comfortable for Fiji standards along with the FNPF contributions.

As you have mentioned, FJ has lost a lot of experience to the Middle East and Hong Kong. It will be very interesting to see in the next 5-10 years how many guys will return back to paradise. In that time frame many will have a free mansion in Fiji with a Riviera 40 in the marina.

I am what is euphemistically called "semi-retired" being well north of 60.
Spend half my life on my small sailing boat which is currently in Tasmania. Dabble a bit in aviation either fixing other people's nonsensical operations manuals or a little training work. To get around I fly a kit-built Sonex; I do maybe 200 hours a year which is just enough to frighten the horses. Qualifies as flying?

I apologise for the Nadi comment. On reflection it wasn't that bad a place.
But PNG has a bit of an undeserved bad reputation too. I wouldn't walk around Port Moresby or Lae at night, but neither would I walk around King's Cross. Rabaul and Madang are still OK and the remote islands even better.
