Hi all.

While looking through my late Aunts belonging/paper work I found a boxing medal (came as a shock to me, he seemed such a gentle man) of my late Uncle, who was a Army Captain in WWII on the reverse..........

Presented
To
Capt.. D. Mcwhinnie
Union Jack

Around the edge of the boxing medal...... Tyrrhenian zone boxing championship. The other side shows mountains, cloud, tree on left and towards the bottom a sea bay.

Not having experience of military life I didn't think officers 'mixed it' in the ring. I recall photos (long gone, viewed as a boy) he had from his wars years, photos of German aircraft being shot at from above. Another thing that intrigues me around the 60s (civvy street, think he left the Army just after the war ended) he visited Check Point Charlie, Berlin. Anyway, any help with info on the boxing medal would be most appreciated.

They certainly did. My wife's uncle represented the RAF.
