As is well known, in signs "this way to the airport", the arrow is usually replaced by a simple airliner shape.
Recently at a country lane junction in the countryside behind Manchester Airport in England I found a home-painted "this way to the airport" sign where the pointer shape was not an airliner but a Spitfire or similar, in black on white.
