From today's Khaleej Times newspaper.

KARACHI - Ailing national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines suffered a setback on Sunday when its scheduled London-bound flight was cancelled after an inspection team of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) refused to give it clearance at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, private TV channel ARY reported.

PIA officials were trying to get a replacement aircraft but due to shortage of planes the airline was also planning to adjust affected passengers in flights of other airlines. Currently, out of 39 aircraft in PIA’s fleet, 30 are operating amid reports that some of them are not ‘fit for flying’, especially the ageing 373 and Airbus 310s.

Another flight of the PIA scheduled to leave for Islamabad from Karachi was stopped following CAA inspectors’ refusal to clear the aircraft.

According to sources, PIA’s Islamabad-bound flight would be allowed to leave Karachi after a re-inspection by CAA’s air worthiness team.

Four flights scheduled for domestic and foreign destinations from Lahore were also cancelled. These flights included Jeddah- and Multan-bound flights of the PIA and Airblue and Bhoja Air’s night flights to Karachi.

I guess that explains why Saturdays PIA775/776 Islamabad - Leeds flight was also running 7 and a half hours late.

PK appears to be having serious problems just like AI. What's happenend to the sub-continent's once great carriers? Too much political interference perhaps?
