30 years ago today saw Naval aviation in action in the first steps to recover the Falkland Islands.

Some notable points were
- the infiltration of SBS to Cumberland Bay,
- the depth charging of ARA Santa Fe by Wessex 3
- the attacks by Wasps with AS12,
- machine gunning by Lynx,
- spotting for Naval Gunfire Support,
- carriage of Royal Marines and
- the casevac of a wounded Argentine.

Yes it is easy to forget that the conflict was not only fought in the Falklands - although that was certainly where most of the action took place!

Three shps, some M&AW Royal Marines, a jungly Wessex V and three Wasps completed the final action in Southern Thule with the surrender of the Naval Party there and their subsequent removal!

S. Thule had been a nettle the FCO had refused to grab for years.

Yes I was from 1980 - 82. A great somewhat odd-ball ship and a phenominal crew with an exceptional leader.
We were down there already and were involved from the scrap men in S. Georgia all the way through to S. Thule returning to Chatham after being away six weeks short of a year.
