Boeing 707 TZ-TAC arrrived at Manston today. Nice to see one of these airworthy and in good condition. Well worth getting a few pictures :ok:

Snap of it here: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1342628/

Presumably as it's in for maintenance it will soon disappear into a hangar?

It could well be hangared at any time during its stay. Not sure how long it will be in for yet.

I could be wrong but wasn't the older engined 707 banned from flying within Europe's airspace due to noise regulations ?

This is not the first time I have heard of these older aircraft flown to the UK for maintenance.

So am I correct to think that these one off events for maintenance are allowed ?

Indeed you are - they are exempt but with some restrictions. Also it might use its diplomatic / state exemption to circumnavigate the rules.

What has happened to the resident B707 ?

What has happened to the resident B707 ?

The last time I saw it the aircraft was looking a little sad (not a first for a Manston based machine!) with no engines and the vertical tail removed.

If you look at the pictures you'll see it is fitted with Stage III Hushkits :ok:
The resident is hangared and being stripped.

I was in Ramsgate when the 707 came over, twice. It's strange how what used to be a common sight can now cause such nostalgic stirrings.

Having watched the two approaches I popped around to Manston for a closer look and noted what looked like an airworthy DC8 parked on the northern side of the airfield. Does anyone know anymore about this aircraft?:8

I think the DC8 is South African registered & owned by Stars Away Cargo

I think you will find this aircraft has been re-engined with P & W JT8D-219s (MD80 engine) instead of the original JT3Ds.

Great looking classic.

Was the DC8 an ex Emery aircraft?

Nope, I think you'll find it has original JT3s fitted inside those Hushkits. :ok:

No, ZS-OSI was Kitty Hawk, N802MG.

I see it has gone to Omega Air. Spares or for conversion as a tanker?

Omega lost a plane in May 2011, so replacement would be a good guess.
