Denys Corbett-Wilson was indeed the first to make the crossing without getting his feet wet.

However, on September 11th 1910, the well known actor Robert Lorraine left Holyhead for Ireland in a Farman biplane, but ditched in the sea just off Howth Head and swam the last couple of hundred metres to the shore - technically an uncompleted crossing by air but he did get across. His engine cut out six times during the flight!
