I am wondering which airline has had the same colour-scheme for the longest period of time, American Airlines springs to mind but are there any others?
And what about the shorest (not including non-start-ups and ceasing of operations)? Delta's 'cloth draped around the tail' did not last too long.
Just curious

Pan Am lasted a long time.

Longest, I would say Royal Air Maroc...largely unchanged since the 1960's. Of the major carriers I would agree that it's probably American.
Just thinking, another one that was around for some time was Ethiopian - the previous livery was certainly around in the '60's and survived until circa 2005.

Alitalia: current livery is not much changed from that introduced in about 1970. A classic example of modern design in my view.

Slight drift. Have you also noticed that when a longstanding scheme is replaced its crap?

Another example of a long standing logo that got badly redesigned was BP. In the late 80s or early 90s (as I recall) the logo of some 35+ years was redesigned but it lasted no more than ten years. As I say, this is off the top of memory.
If you search for BP logo redesign, you may be as amused as I was to see the way in which folk replied to the BP rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The internet allows a reply never previously possible.
A new generation arrive and have to justify their existance and the bosses let them as they think the young people have some secret elixir. Whereas, it should be a combination of new thinking, with old experience.
Expect cr@p redesigns to continue!

Hasn't the Shell logo been around for very long while too?
