What model Solar?
Are you sure it's 12 VDC?

Bug talked to Stan Foster this is his reply, he fly's a superb Solar powered experimental in US.
He said he has had problem registering on PPRuNe.
PM me If you want to contact him
"Contact Eagle R&D in Idaho, or just Google for the Solar exciter and they are out there. They are all 28 volt" however...and it works fine with 12 volts that we use.(also main fuel solenoid )http://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=92197&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1334592424

Is there any correlation between frizzy hair and 24V where it should be 12V
