It looks like it has an auxiliary fuel tank. However, there is apparently no fuel leaking so maybe you are right.

Schweizer has about 4 hours endurance with twin tanks ( more if they are the bigger ones) I think any fuel leaking would evaoprate very quickly, bear in mind this is India ( hot):ugh:, plus just because it has crashed doesnt mean it leaks !

It might have been empty for all we know!

Hmmmm...
There are not many cargo hooks in India, and even fewer longline pilots...
Some military friends will sling it off the building.

GG,

It was lifted off by crane.

The announcer said the tanks were emptied, not empty. However, the media don't always get it right (as we know).

Namaste

Apparently this was a result of an engine seizure.........

In that case??? Pulling off a forced landing auto onto a building roof top rather than into the narrow crowded, wire strung streets??? :ok: F********@@KKKK :(

Is an awesome achievement from the Pilot. :) Well Done !! ;)

Having suffered an engine failure in a narrow gorge with a torrent below, just getting onto a rice field upright & nil injuries; I was bloooooody LUCKY.

As was our Brother in India in the 300 :ok: :D a truly Commendable job

Always Happy Landings ;)

No gas cans around:cool:-Giant field o dirt,:rolleyes:You have 4 hours worth of fuel tanks But just fill what you thought you needed.:=, Oops, They even bent the skid back into shape.:ok:
Go back & see what you thought you saw. Study it, So you don't find that poor old pooch to screw too.:ugh:

Eh? why would there still be gas cans lying around?

What fields of dirt?

The accident report says engine failure, as mentioned already.

What are you trying to say?

John-Watch the recovery video once more please.
Have you ever recovered a "wreck"?
Where did the crane park to pick the load?
Fly safe:D

Yes Don. The helicopter landed on a roof. What is the significance of dirt fields to whether there was gas in the tanks? More so given that the report says engine failure.

All I could see on the video shows was a dirt area about 30 yards wide next to at least one multi story building. Indian cities are very crowded places. We have no idea whether there's tall buildings all around that square making it an impossible auto target, or if it was open fields, or if it was teeming with crowds of people at the time it came down.

So again, please humour me and explain what was your point because I have no idea what you are getting at.

Get some glasses! :D Another video shows a giant field to the left side of the building 4000ft X 2500 ft several thousand feet behind that power lines, in front of the building a nice area that you could land a few chinooks. :rolleyes:on one video they removed the tail rotor with the gearbox & shaft. then later on the way down it's reassembled:confused:.

All the 300s I've seen normaly have the tail boom cut off when the auto comes to an end,
This one is not the typical "emergency " landing.:{

What other video would that be, Don?

There's only one i can see posted in this thread and the only dirt area I can see is the road outside the apartment block.

And once again, what relevance has the presence or absence of said land got to do with whether there are gas cans in the picture or fuel in the tanks?

I think Hillberg is actually a local Indian ( possibly he is a resident in one of the apartments )using auto translate to try to communicate with us .....that is why he is making no sense at all . not his fault , just poor software.

Don, for the last time what has open dirt fields and lack of gas cans have to do with whether the tanks were empty? I won't ask this again if you don't answer and will have to assume you have no idea.

As to open fields I notice the comment "densely populated residential area" in
Luck & pilot skill avert terrace tragedy (http://www.telegraphindia.com/1120413/jsp/nation/story_15369862.jsp#.T4ysgrO4JBl)
but no video. Your assertion of acres of open space is at odds with "densely populated".

I believe he is refering to this video at 06:33, where it shows an open dirt area with Power Lines in the background and god knows what else lurking about.

Hah - thanks for that 206Fan.

It would be interesting to know what direction he auto'd in from. I suspect on approach to the rooftop his sphincter would have resembled a rabbit's nose.

As a regular traveler to India I would observe that even if this "open area" was within auto distance it is almost certain that it would have been covered with kids playing cricket. :-)

:ugh:If he had fuel cans in the area they would be used to defuel the helicopter- to reduce the fire hazard & reduce the weight making it easier to handle.:=

The other videos that 206fan had links.:ok: just follow the links. It's a real volume to learn from.(You even look close you can see the blade scares on the cement roof & how the blades were damaged)

If you ever had to auto a 300 you would be looking between your toes for where the landing would be, :rolleyes:Glad they walked away- Nice bit of luck.

The group on the roof looked a Cal Trans road crew (1 worker & 25 supervisors):D

Fly safe.

In all honesty I don't blame the Pilot aiming for the Rooftop. Less chance of you getting rammed by a stray car on the ground. It is India afterall!
