With only a few weeks left to go to civilian life I just wondered if there were any other currently serving folk posting in here :ok:

Overall have enjoyed serving but time for pastures new, before I become a grumpy old bugger:O

What type of responses are you expecting from your post?

If you're leaving, just leave. If you're expecting a fanfare, you might be disappointed to learn that the military world won't fall apart in your absence.

And neither will the RAF!

I think the thrust of the thread is: "Do we have many serving RAF/FAA/AAC etc posters on PPRuNe?"

I've got plenty time yet to serve, and am currently not pi$$ed off with the service in any way.

Hope that helps the research. ;)

In that case you are either a relative newbie looking at the Monkey Tree through rose-tinted spectacles or you are towards the top of the tree and can't see WTF everyone else is seeing

Are you putting money on that?

Maybe my tinted specs have become a little more rosy since I left in 93 but it seems very much like the RAF is well on its way to falling apart in my absence :}

Just done 8,030 days in the Regulars and I'm now a full-time reservist with up to 7,300 days to go - with a bit of flying thrown in as well (mil and civ reg). :ok:

I must say the commitment for my latter life suits far better as I get into my senior years!

Well this is distressing. I'm devastated to hear there will be no day of mourning on my departure and that the military will continue on without me. Had assumed it would implode and become a desolate wasteland when I left. Perhaps a minute's silence and black armbands for the day is a little more realistic? :hmm:

9490 down and 1113 to push, can't really say that I have not enjoyed it, but I think that 2012 is going to be a tough year on all of us in HM Forces. When I get to the 30 year point thats it for me, time to get out the pipe and slippers.

I still like it most of the time. It's the people, the quality of the people, that make it worthwhile though. Apart from them, it's all a bit crap at the moment, but I think it will improve soon.

I hope it will anyhow. Are things better elsewhere.......?

9490 done, 2555 to do. Still enjoy it (mostly) and like having a new challenge every couple of years on job change. Have seen many parts of the world and sometimes forget how lucky we are to be able to do that. Not all the places have been 'great' but all have been 'great experiences' (especially in hind sight!)

Into my 27th year (in two Forces) and after a last minue change of heart and the offer of another overseas posting to a cracking job, I'll have about another 5 years to Serve.* It's generally been great but being nibbled to death is getting a bit tiresome - and a bit hard on the pocket.

Challenge over the next few years is to find a civilian job that's as interesting...

* subject to redundancy, of course.

Still in, no plans to leave... Until I see the new pension deal. I filled in the survey and was depressed by the leading questions.

Then I went flying, saw all those office bound losers stuck on the motorway and felt better about my lot.

Play nicely. They've had their horlicks, nurse has tucked them in and turned off Uncle wifi. Start communicating again after 9.30am when they are all back in the day room, looking out of the big window and waiting for a family visit that isn't coming.

I'm going to be in trouble for this. Standing by.

There used to be something called a Chuff Factor in places like Gan and Sharjah. It was days done divided by days to do. One's CF increased exponentially as one's departure date approached. Much better than raw numbers.
