I Started as an AFI at this club and took over from Alan Jeffs as CFI, I had a range of instructors working for me, Harold Norden a Dentist now deceased, Mack ex Kenya, I knew Harold's son an instructor at Oxford living on a houseboat in Warwick, who gave up teaching IR's to become a Welsh taxi driver.

Left Wolverhampton in the 70's to go out to South Africa with John Simpson, Peter Edgington and Dave Rose, heard from two of them since, both Grandparents and retired. When I got back from Africa I joined Hull Aero Cub at Paull in Yorkshire and married a student, Kath Woodhouse. Then out to Saudi and the RSAF, living in Riyadh and earning megabucks.Back to UK and as no-one would employ me as they all said I'd be back to the Midle East, started my own Company with an AOC, then back to the Middle East again for a couple of ground contracts.

Does anyone remember Derek Moss who crashed at Sywell, spun in, in a Robin, and survived, but wished he had died as he is now fully immobile.

Spent the last ten years as a Goundschool Instructor, SECOAT, PPSC, EPTA, Oxford. Retired three years ago.

All the best

So sorry to hear of Derek's demise. He was my PPL instructor at Coventry in the 70's ( at Roger Gulliver's Midlands school of flying) whilst I was post Flying Scholarship from Halfpenny Green and still very wet behind the ears. Great bloke and good fun. Is he still in Northants after all this time?

Does anyone remember Derek Moss

I am still in contact with Derek Moss. He is not very well but keeps his interest going with all things aviation.

Hi Roger,

Derek was my Assistant when I was CFI at Nipper Aviation at EMA, I taught him to fly and he went off to Sywell after he qualified.

I did know his number, and spoke to his Mom many years ago, I offered to phone or visit but she said he was too ill to see me. Is his Mom still alive as she would be quite old now.

Next time you speak to Derek tell him you have been in touch with his old Skipper who remembers well the disgusting parties in Kegworth and does he remember my old mate Dominique Pearson ditching the twin in the North Sea, who went on to be a Skipper with BMA, then joined Cathey.

All the best

Harold Norden-ha ha. Probably holds the record for the shortest time ever at a flying school. Harold tended to be a touch arrogant & the CFI of the Warwickshire Aero Club sacked him after 10 minutes into a starting his first pre flight briefing.

Is Dominic Pearson still alive-I know his wife an ex BBC newscaster, Lynette Lythgo, was murdered in Asia.

This should be part of the Don Everall thread shouldnt it as didnt DE own the club?

Where are Harold Norden's sons? They used to fly. Also, Ben McLeod. :ooh:

On the 16th of May 1965, Harold Norden flew Beagle A61/2 G-ASYG at Wolverhampton Aero Club for my trial lesson (20 mins).
I believe he had to dead stick a Terrier at Pendeford when the spinner fell off and broke the prop.
It is very sad to read of so many departed souls.
