Back from my hols, where I missed the budget nonsense last week, and I've been enduring the tedious posturing by politicians over VAT on take aways.
It would seem that as 1, I've never been inside a Greggs and 2, I can't remember where I bought my last pasty I am somehow posh and out of touch.
I must buy some mustard coloured cords this weekend.

With you on #1 there, COL, but I do recall my last pasty. I bought it at a railway station and it wasn't very good.

I heard someone pulling Cameron apart this morning (not difficult) saying that the first time he mentioned the pasty story it was at Leeds, where apparently at the time he mentioned it there wasn't a West Cornwall Pasty Company, then he changed the story to Liverpool ....... oh dear!
He obviously needs to be reminded of the rule about digging and holes. When you've dug yourself into a hole, stop digging, because you can only get in deeper!

The outrage is caused because the new interpretation of the tax liability applies to freshly-baked products that are sold whilst still warm.
Anything that is 'above ambient' will be deemed to be provided for immediate consumption (yet anything cold will not be taxed).
This derives from the anomaly that take-away businesses such as fish and chip shops that supply hot pies are subject to VAT and they consider themselves to be disadvantaged over Greggs that sell 'fresh - not reheated' products.

What a load of old B*ll*cks all this nonsense is.
I doubt if ANY of this lot in power at the moment have ever
tasted a proper Cornish pasty.
Warrens sell them hot OR cold. That will complicate thing I think.
Mind you, "Call Me Dave" WAS on holiday down that way when the
baby was born.

I hear that Nick Clegg is going to change his name to Nick Greggs, as Greggs appears to be more popular than him.

. . . BrotherP speaks highly of their steak bake. Anyone here care to comment? (on the steak bake, not BrotherP)

Yup. The steak bakes are fine. I pick one up, along with a veggie bake, on my way to football. (soccer for the ignorant.)
Food is fine. Good prices.

Thanks, AO. MrsP is taking her mum up north for a few days next week, so I'll be looking for "quick and tasty" to allow me more time in the pub. :p

I suppose that counts. :)
