The detailed Russian based supplementary article in today's SCMP about Kim Philby fails to mention the little known fact that prior to his deflection the Soviet Union never paid Philby a single cent in monetary reward. His actions were entirely ideologically driven. The article does however tell of collusion between the BOAC manager in Beiruit, an airline Captain, the Beiruit airport commandant and the U.S. embassy. This occurred after Philby fled and was aimed at getting his wife from Beiruit to London unnoticed. A little piece of the story not previously known.

O.P.

Frogman 1484;

You have every right to express an opinion but keep in mind history now acknowledges that the ex king of England ( Duke of Windsor ) and the Queen's third cousin ( Sir Anthony Blunt ) were not exactly squeaky clean.

The link is that, like so many others before and since, "Filthy" Philby Failed in London, and Tried Hong Kong. Knocked back by Aus, he moved onto the USSR.

Shame you can't get a decent pie in Moskva.

Yawn................ :zzz:
