Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum
I have an aviation degree and working on my master's in aviation as well. I only have 400 TT, 102 hrs on multi and never flown for hire before :hmm:. Looking to get into the field and have been looking at CX SO. I'm just wondering if there's any better option for me out there. I don't mind living or moving to anywhere really :O. Any insight is very much appreciated :ok:

Hey mate,
Try the wannabe forum, all the info you need if you are serious. In my opinion find another career away from airline flying and you will be much happier in the long run. 50 odd thousand dollars Aus as a second officer with a measley HK allowance is hardly a great quality of life for anyone in a very expensive city.:ugh:

Lol, sounds pretty much like the best 1st job in aviation going! Were any young pilots living in 2500sq ft luxury during their first aviation job?
In my opinion, the cadet scheme is great for a 20yr olds first job. Build some P1 hrs (5-6 years), then have your pick of jobs (if there are any). If you're married and 30+, then you have rocks in your head.
But yes, better in the wannabees forum.

Blogsey,
50 K oz sounds ok I guess for a first job. Take out the 15% tax and factor in the high cost of living and it is more like a 30K GA job in Australia. (except your now an airline pilot of sorts) If old mate is living with his parents in HK as I suspect then maybe some validity to your point. Hardly the income one would and should expect after a massive outlay(for some) with a premier airline.........

I looked at the wannabe forum, nothing was particularly helpful as far as getting a job. I don't think they know a lot better than I do, that's why I wanted to give it a shot here and see how you guys think.
I mean I'm not complaining about the salary and stuff. In fact, it's by far better than those entry jobs in the States and Canada. I think it's a pretty good deal for me, but since it'll likely be a life career, I'd like to see if there's any other options out there. Thanks for the inputs mates ;)

krisER,
I'm not entirely sure what you are looking for. There is everything you could possibly want to know about the terms and conditions, recruiting process etc in the wannabes forum. Other options with your TT are somewhat limited and not knowing anything further about your situation it is hard to offer any further direction. If you think the cadetship is for you after reading all the info that is available, then check out the Cathay website and submit your app. I heard at one point they had 30,000 applicants. In any case good luck.

50k Oz WOULD be great if you were in fact living in Oz.
A 2500sqft apartment in HK, in DB or central will see you about 10k Oz per annum in arrears, good luck with that :ok:

bunghole,
I'm just looking for a flying job somewhere :O
But ur right, with my TT, I do not have many choices. I think CX might be my best bet. Actually I thought abt flying a small prop a/c somewhere until i have 1500 TT and apply for CX after I got my ATPL. But a lot of places seem to be hiring local pilots :( that makes it harder for me to get the 1500TT.
