BREAKING: A @United Airbus A320 is returning to Boston having lost "all steering controls" /via @liveatc

Just had this appear on my phone, not sure of the nature of the emergency based on the info - all steering controls from a journo point of view could be anything I guess.

Without wishing to be macabre, but how do they know they're returning to Boston if they can't steer the thing?

Sounds like the loss of the Green Hydraulic system which also powers the Nose Wheel Steering.

Whilst a bit of a pain it's not the end of the world as you can still steer by differential braking. A degradation of the flying controls but the Yellow system will still keep you poling around happily.

Obviously all my opinion as the cause is not yet known.

Still, seems like a little bit of Journo license!
