Baywatcher 14th Mar 2012, 16:23 Yes indeed Iggy Inspector Clueless 14th Mar 2012, 20:07 A very nice man. I worked with him and found him to be good company and a very capable operator loved a drink and lots of banter. Mention Buccaneers and his eyes glassed over. What bloody awful news.IC Fokkerwokker 14th Mar 2012, 20:51 We did our last trips together in Gulfair. Great chap and a blast to be with. I'll raise a glass to him on the 21st. RIP FW parabellum 15th Mar 2012, 00:07 Is that the Ian that was in Laker and Air Europe? A very premature passing if it is. RIP. Fly3 15th Mar 2012, 08:22 I am shocked and saddened to hear that Ian has passed away. We worked together in Air Europe and Excalibur and I enjoyed great banter and many a beer down route with him. I even forgave him his constant references to chopper pukes! RIP my friend. Finbarr 15th Mar 2012, 11:11 Very sad to hear that. I remember in Gulf Air on a night flight back to BAH via Paris (one of us was operating and one positioning) we got off in Paris and went to the duty-free shop and each bought a bottle of Calvados. On my way home we went to his home in Blue Jurdab and polished them both off by 10am! Happy days. Thoughts with the family. slowjet 15th Mar 2012, 23:31 Ian. Aaaaaaah ! Didn't like him when we were going off about the BAC 1-11 & I said something like it was a bit twitchy close to the bell ( I was twying to be a Military erk) but then, Ian rounded on me & said, "well, what's it like....upside down ?. Liked him, even less. B U R T, as we say in the North............ ( oh, can't say anything nice & Parabellum will be after my Ass.......someone might miss him .! Hey, chaps. it is what makes the world go round. Do we have to love everyone in Aviation ???? nah, right now, don't even like myself. B O U G H T.... as we say in Manchester..... who gives a F o o u g h t ! Mummy adores me. Cheeers Ian, we will swop beers & the 1-11 was very twitchy close to the bell. Gordomac 16th Mar 2012, 09:59 Lost around six to cancer. With Ian, four of them pilots. I celebrate a passing as I have beliefs of the better place that awaits us all. I particularly celebrate this type of passing as it means total relief from absolute agony. Knew Ian in Laker & briefly in Air Europe. RIP Ian. Pain now gone but will be endured by those left behind. Condolences to all who liked him. Doesn't matter a damn if you disliked him. He probably disliked you even more and would tell you so, with that wicked grin ! Vasco dePilot 18th Mar 2012, 09:45 Ian was on 360 when I joined them in 1970. I back seated for him on several occasions. Boy didnt he go on about his beloved Bucc and life on 809Sqn RN. Shared many too many beers together in those days. Hope life in between has been kind to him. Bon voyage old mate. Vasco. reach for the sky 22nd Mar 2012, 00:35 Just got back to the UK after Ian's funeral. What was very obvious to all that attended, that there were some seriously interesting people there. Not one marginal character in sight. He was the straightest character around. Had an incredible enthusiam for almost everything. The world will miss his presense. RIP Ian. You may not be with us anymore, but you will always be remembered. Have absolutely no doubt about that. Baywatcher 22nd Mar 2012, 08:54 I too have just returned from the funeral and echo Reach for the Sky's thoughts. Slowjet was certainly not missed. RIP Ian, you will never be forgotten for your positive thoughts on life, enthusiasm and wit. The quality of people at your farewell proved your success in all walks of life. Your family are a credit to you. |
