What does this mean for the future ? Is it a political move to cut the Reds via the back door....

The last thread on this subject was removed pronto

"Pronto" as in after 3 pages and 47 posts, many of which were rather distasteful and many of which caused complaints from a lot of you folks? That pronto?

:E;)

From Red 1 on Friday:

The whole team joins me in thanking, from the bottom of our hearts, the general public and our fellow Service men and women for their continued support throughout this most difficult period

Said with heart and decorum.

According to the original statement, they would return to a nine-ship in 2013. I can understand, however, why they would reduce to a seven-ship or even less in due course. All will depend, I suppose, on the available T1/1A airframes and how much can be spent on squeezing as much out of them into the future?

With only 28 T2s built, and from what I'm given to understand, every last man jack of 'em needed at Valley, I can't see there being a nine-ship team made out of that lot in the future. The times they are changing "come gather round people" etc etc!

I was not aware of the previous thread on this subject. Having just read it - feel free to shut this one down to prevent the same.
FWIW, I was thinking more about the implications for the team than the individual.

Best advice is stick to topic and refrain from making up reasons that have no bearing on the facts. It is VERY simple to understand why there are 7 this year instead of moving off in directions that do not exist. Remember too that the team have gone to hell and back in the past few months. They know PPRuNe and read it often - just give them your support. As ex and serving Mil we all know how to do that. :ok:

If you are not up to the standard of these people and this sort of precision flying, then go ye forth and multiply.

Best of luck Reds, the 'public' have a short memory, most of us don't and realise how tough it can be . . . even before the adversity.

Stick with it, you're still the best in the world at what you do.

I heard that they will fly a Borg formation in view of them becoming seven of nine. ;)

I hope they have a wonderful season this year and return to the full nine for next season. Good luck fellahs, smoke on, GO! :ok:

I heard that they will fly a Borg formation in view of them becoming seven of nine. - I have worn out my Google button there. Got to page 3 and Star Trek and gave up. Put this old flyer out of his misery and tell me what a Borg formation is please.

"Borg, Borg, Go!" I can hear it now.:)

BOAC, you were on the right track, the borg were an alien species in star trek:
Borg (Star Trek) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg_(Star_Trek))

seven of nine was a borg character from the Startrek Voyager series, played by the actress Jeri Ryan

I'll let you google "Seven of Nine";)

The Reds got back from Cyprus on Monday. Have they been awarded PDA? Can't find any mention on MoD sites.

seven of nine (Googled) - hmm. If one were to 'give her one' would that complicate the maths?

I haven't seen anything published officially either, but I have seen tweets from one of the 2012 team which would suggest that they have received PDA.
He was pictured in his red suit, and I don't think they can wear that until PDA has been granted.

I believe they did their first public display of the season as a 7 ship at Folkestone yesterday. Anyone see it? Presume it is shorter than before but hope it went well and looked good.

Radio failure 1/2 way through the first display.

Microphone failure for Synchro Leader in the second-half so no synchro passes for safety. Rest went as planned.

Had the great pleasure of seeing the Patrouille in France recently. Brilliant stuff. They were 8 ship and did a superb display.

I recall the Reds with 7 way back and they will be as good in the coming season as they were then. IIRC each of the premier teams has, at one time or another, had at least one incident to curtail and alter their display. The Reds will I suggest give a good diplay this year with 7.

I am looking forward to the Reds doing a great season with 7 but was also delighted to see them doing such a good job with their extra 2 for the Jubilee flypast :D– great to see you guys, all the best for the rest of the season.

Who flew 8 & 9 during the flypast? Has Parky been dragged back, again? Poor sod.

Genstabler
6th Jun 2012, 15:27
I believe that the two extra pilots making up the 9 for flypasts this season are Red 8 (Dave Davis) and Red 10 (Mike Ling).

Mike back from his very close encounter with Dave! Great stuff, good to see him back, what a very lucky boy.

As much as I've enjoyed being able to have a lie-in since they left it means i can't have a play with the camera while on the cliffs...

Having watched the practices for a few weeks i can safely say this season will be as good as any other.

I quite like the 7 ship set-up. Here are a few photos I took of their display practice at Scampton on 28 May...

The Reds have set up a new official Facebook page, and very good it is too. Full of useful and interesting stuff for us anoraks following their progress, and some cracking photos.
I mentioned the Reds! Please don't delete this post!
