This Forum might care to recognise the role, in creating jobs, of ex-Aer Lingus exec. Maurice Flanagan. You will recall that EI's 3 747-100 found themselves without function c.1977, causing a surfeit of EI Managers. One 747 was wet-leased out to Air Siam and was asset-managed in Bangkok by EI's Tony Ryan...who went on to found operating-leasing and Guiness Peat Aviation. MF went off to run handler/ticket Agent/refueller DNATA in an obscure transit port overshadowed by Bahrain. c.1981 Saudi bequeathed a 727 to the Ruler, who c.1982 asked MF if he could put it to good use bringing S.Asian workers into Araby. He did. One 727 became two. The boy done good. He then suggested the Ruler look at Singapore - the State and the airline. Dubai could do the same, he said. And it did. He became EK President Emeritus. A very simple idea: offer a good travel experience at a good price. Shall we list the Chapter 11/8 (and Euro-equivalent) entities that failed to grasp that idea?
