i was working in St Helens today when i noticed a A321 holding for a hour or so with gear down, it then returned to to Manchester i presume it was burning fuel to the MLW...

does anybody know what the issue was????

it landed safely around 17.15Z :ugh::ugh:

Not too sure about A321 but the type I work on, (mil), if you select u/c up and do not get the correct light sequence and/or a light remains on then it was a recognised operation to select the u/c back down and ensure you have 3 greens. The theory was that 3 legs down and locked is better than 1 you do not know about. Then precaution RTB.

The legs were probably up and locked but you cannot take chances when you have SLF. The above could be caused by icing , after a long high level soak or just a dirty microswitch not putting the light on. I have had a couple of these with no problems.

Ashdaman,

Have a look here:-

Incident: Thomson A321 near Manchester on Mar 10th 2012, cabin pressure problems (http://avherald.com/h?article=44c4410b&opt=0)

This is a very good, quick and accurate website.
